“The worldwide threats hearing, less than 50 days before a presidential election, I’m not sure that that timing is particularly good,” said Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee and of GOP leadership. “But I would be very concerned if they stopped coming up and talking to the Intelligence Committee.” The public isn’t going to be completely in the dark. Some top administration officials, including FBI Director Christopher Wray, are slated to appear Thursday before the House Homeland Security Committee to offer testimony on national security threats. But the failure to get intelligence leaders before the historically […]
Rank-and-file Democrats have increasingly become frustrated with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) brinksmanship-style negotiations with congressional Republicans and President Donald Trump. Politico reported that Pelosi has continued to pursue her hardline approach in negotiations with Republicans, demanding a coronavirus bill around $2.2 trillion. The report arises as many coronavirus programs created by the CARES Act have languished over Pelosi’s reluctance to compromise with Trump and congressional Republicans. However, her reluctance to find a middle ground with moderate Democrats has infuriated many of her most vulnerable members. Senate Democrats rejected a targeted coronavirus aid bill sponsored by Senate Republicans last week. During […]
Less than a month into his tenure as the Air Force’s new chief of staff, Gen. Charles “CQ” Brown put his commanders on notice that they will have to change quickly to prepare for the next war — or risk losing to an adversary such as China or Russia. The details of Brown’s call to “accelerate change or lose” will begin taking form at the Air Force’s fall meeting of its most senior leaders, called Corona. In a roundtable discussion with reporters at the Air Force Association’s virtual Air, Space, Cyber conference, Brown called the upcoming meeting with the leaders of […]
A professor at Washington and Lee University is offering a writing seminar called “How to Overthrow the State,” which “place(s) each student at the head of a popular revolutionary movement aiming to overthrow a sitting government and forge a better society.” Students are charged with writing their own revolutionary manifesto in light of readings from revolutionaries like Che Guevara. The right-wing outrage machine, as you can imagine, is feasting on it and offering it as an example of the radical takeover of higher education. I’m intrigued by the class because I tend toward free-market anarchism myself and think that states are […]

Cornstein had no diplomatic experience and attracted domestic criticism in the United States because of his outreach to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. In 2013, J.K. Rowling explained how she chose her now-controversial pseudonym, “Robert Galbraith.” The first name, she said, was a nod to her political hero, Robert Kennedy. And the last name? “When I was a child, I really wanted to be called Ella Galbraith, I’ve no idea why.” It’s a charming anecdote—but unfortunately, Rowling shares her pseudonym with real-life psychiatrist Robert Galbraith Heath, who in the 20th century pioneered what we now call conversion therapy using techniques including electroshock and “brainwashing” drugs. Rowling’s anecdote, issued before her alternate name choice had stirred much mainstream controversy, casts this tie as sheer, if […]

US officials are at growing risk of being prosecuted for war crimes over the sale of arms to Saudi Arabia and the UAE, a New York Times investigation has revealed as President Donald Trump clears the path for further sale of advanced weapons to the Gulf states following Abu Dhabi’s normalisation of ties with Israel. Interviews with more than a dozen current and former US government officials show that the legal fears related to the arms sales, over the course of two presidential administrations, run far deeper than previously reported. Those concerns are said to have prompted a number of officials to consider hiring […]

New research from UBC finds that after a night of shorter sleep, people react more emotionally to stressful events the next day — and they don’t find as much joy in the good things. The study, led by health psychologist Nancy Sin, looks at how sleep affects our reaction to both stressful and positive events in daily life. “When people experience something positive, such as getting a hug or spending time in nature, they typically feel happier that day,” says Nancy Sin, assistant professor in UBC’s department of psychology. “But we found that when a person sleeps less than their usual […]
Authored by Pat Buchanan via Buchanan.org, “There is no… sound reason for the United States to continue sacrificing precious lives and treasure in a conflict not directly connected to our safety or other vital national interests.” So said William Ruger about Afghanistan, our longest war. What makes this statement significant is that President Donald Trump has ordered a drawdown by mid-October of half of the 8,600 troops still in the country. And Ruger was just named U.S. ambassador to Kabul. The selection of Ruger to oversee the U.S. withdrawal came as Gen. Frank McKenzie of Central Command announced plans to cut […]

A review published in the Lancet analyzed previous studies on medical education and found that nutrition education isn’t adequately incorporated in current medical curricula. In fact, many of the known contributors to heart disease, the leading cause of death worldwide, are controllable. These include eating foods rich in unhealthy […]

As with so many other things in 2020, the full-out war against plastic has abated. For many years, even decades, before the current global pandemic, environmental advocates have waged a war against single-use plastic. We’ve been winning that war. More and more consumers are carrying reusable bags for groceries and other shopping items, asking restaurants to use more sustainable materials for take-out containers, and using fewer plastic straws. Turkey said on Tuesday it had extended the operations of its Yavuz energy drillship in disputed Mediterranean waters off Cyprus until October 12, in a move that could stir tension between the Greek Cypriot government and Ankara. Yavuz will be accompanied by three other Turkish ships, according to a maritime notice that added “all vessels are strongly advised not to enter” the area. Cyprus’ internationally recognised Greek Cypriot government has long been at loggerheads with Turkey, which began drilling for oil and gas near Cyprus last year. Joe Biden’s (D) campaign condemned the Trump campaign for holding an event in Michigan Monday night which featured Donald Trump Jr., Kimberly Guilfoyle, and Detroit rocker Kid Rock. Bill Russo, the deputy communications director for Joe Biden’s campaign, suggested that President Trump and his allies are not taking the Chinese coronavirus pandemic seriously by holding such events and are effectively putting voters at risk. “People in Michigan know inherently, even before this crisis hit, what the reality of the Trump administration has been. And I think since this crisis hit it’s only gotten worse,” Russo said, according to Fox 2. “President […]
About nine months into its existence, the Space Force is working on the nuts-and-bolts elements of how it will operate as its own military service. In an address Tuesday at the Air Force Association’s virtual Air, Space, Cyber conference, Chief Master Sgt. Roger Towberman, the Space Force’s top enlisted adviser, outlined where the new service is going on elements such as promotions, uniforms and first sergeants. The Space Force is trying to involve as many of its members in these decisions — not only to get a variety of perspectives, but also so space professionals feel they’re involved in building the […]

Biden Hones Multi-Trillion-Dollar Budget Biden rejected progressive spending plans but now Hones Multi-Trillion-Dollar Budget Joe Biden won the Democratic presidential nomination running as a moderate, rejecting the big-government plans of progressive rivals as unaffordable. The former vice president has proposed a total of $5.4 trillion in new spending over the next 10 years, according to an analysis published Monday by the Penn Wharton Budget Model, a nonpartisan group at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. That includes historically high allocations for sectors from education and health to child-care […]
In 2019, Messi received a fine of $50,000 and a three-month ban from international football after he criticized the organizers of Copa America, accusing referees of corruption, and even said that Argentina shouldn’t participate in the tournament anymore. Lionel Messi believes the Argentine national football team will end its title drought at the 2021 Copa America, Goal reported, without citing its sources. According to the sports website, the 33-year-old believes in the team’s new manager Lionel Scaloni and completely trusts the coaching staff. Messi reportedly thinks that with the players that have recently come to the fore – Giovani Lo Celso, […]

Decentralized finance (DeFi) has been grabbing the headlines and capturing the imagination of traders in recent weeks and some of the biggest centralized cryptocurrency exchanges seem to be afraid they’re missing out. That’s why they are now trying to reposition themselves as integral parts of this exploding sector, particularly as traders in China grow more interested in DeFi. Huobi announced Tuesday it was adding 10 more members to its DeFi initiative, described as “a consortium of centralized and decentralized financial services providers.” Archrival OKEx, which launched its OKxChain blockchain earlier this year, boasted Monday that with its latest upgrade the network […]
The pending cabinet reshuffle, schedule next month, is unlikely to make a huge difference to Sudanese current economic difficulties. Despite the signing of two peace deals ending 17 years of conflict in Darfur and South Kordofan, which in theory should lead to a redistribution of the country’s defence spending, the light at the end of the tunnel in Sudan remains barely visible. The next few months will be crucial for the country’s Prime Minister, who despite an upbeat beginning to his tenure, has not managed to make in-roads into Sudan’s major problems and has had to put up with a growing […]
Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny posted a photo of himself from his hospital room in Germany on Tuesday, and said he was able to breathe for an entire day without the aid of a ventilator. Navalny reportedly told German officials he plans to return to Russia as soon as he has recovered from what several international diagnostic teams have now confirmed as Novichok poisoning. Navalny appears in the hospital photo with his wife Yulia and two children. In the accompanying text, he joked about the joys of being able to breathe without mechanical assistance and said he is now able to […]
President Trump made an interesting admission Tuesday morning when he said that Bob Woodward’s book was “fine.” Around the same time, the South China Morning Post published yet another excerpt from Woodward’s book, Rage, purporting to detail two “historic” phone calls between Trump and President Xi. During the calls, President Trump reportedly offered to help President Xi “100%” with whatever aid China required. But President Xi side-stepped the request, saying he was “personally overseeing” China’s response (in fact, Xi appointed his No. 2 man, Premier Li Keqiang, to oversee the situation in January), and asked Trump to simply support a WHO […]

(Natural News) The crisis America is facing today isn’t merely a “current events” crisis involving riots, arson, attacks on police and extreme censorship of conservatives and Christians. It’s much more than that: It’s actually a spiritual war being waged across this planet, with left-wing demons rising up to try to destroy society, mass murder Christians around the world, silence all voices of reason and burn down human civilization. This is further evidenced by the fact that BLM leaders are heavily into witchcraft and satanism. As explained by Alex Newman at TheNewAmerican.com: Now, newly released audio recordings reveal the occult practices, ancestor […]

The Pine Island and Thwaites glaciers along the coast of the Amundsen Sea have already contributed five percent to the rise of global sea levels, and scientists are bracing for far worse scenarios. The Antarctic glaciers, which have long been on scientists’ radars, have now been found to be on a course to disintegrate completely, sooner or later, as both are breaking free from the restraints that have hitherto kept them in place – and sea levels in check, according to findings published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The study was based on thorough analysis of satellite […]

Update (1425ET): In what should be a surprise to nobody, House Democrats have completely shot down the $1.5 trillion bipartisan compromise for pandemic relief, arguing “When it comes to bolstering the public health system, supporting state and local governments, and assisting struggling families, the Problem Solvers’ proposal leaves too many needs unmet.” “… The health and economic crisis demands action. That will require President Trump and Republican leaders to come back to the table and work with Democrats to save lives and livelihoods,” the Democrats continue. Full statement here. A Congressional hearing over these arms sales is set to take place on Wednesday. The report said that officials from both the Obama administration and the Trump administration have considered hiring lawyers to discuss the possibility of being arrested while vacationing overseas. According to pro-Houthi sources, Saudi warplanes conducted over 60 airstrikes on different targets across the country during the past few days. They insist that the most of the targets that were hit were objects of civilian infrastructure. At the same time, Riyadh claims that it has been precisely bombing Houthi military positions. For example, on September 12, the Saudi-led coalition announced that it had carried out a […]

It is worth noting that during his interview with Arabi21, Aktay made a distinction between […]
Business conditions improved at a “solid clip” in recent week, the New York Fed said Tuesday in its monthly “Empire State” manufacturing report. The New York Fed’s business conditions index jumped 13.3 points to 17 in September. Economists had expected the index to rise from last month’s 3.7 to 6.5, according to a survey by Econoday. Production delays may have sidelined the new iPhone for now, but Apple is charging ahead with its annual product-launch event, holding a scaled-down event inside its “Apple Park” in Cupertino. Apple has delayed the unveiling of its next-generation iPhones, though photos have leaked on social media, prompting a wave of criticism of the device’s new camera setup. The company has blamed the delay on the pandemic and production-related issues for the delay. By Tom Kubiniec for VTGun safe companies are working quickly to adopt new technologies in their safes. Biometrics (fingerprint scanners, facial recognition), Wi-Fi, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and others are being incorporated into almost every safe on the market. The sales and marketing brochures tout this new technology as the best and most convenient way to secure and access firearms. In many cases, new technology improves the product and user experience. However, in others, it simply adds some sizzle to otherwise mundane products. The hope is that customers will buy because of trending tech. So how does technology impact firearm safety and […]
