Authored by Dave DeCamp via AntiWar.com, President Biden announced Wednesday during the NATO summit in Madrid steps that the US will take to increase its military presence in Europe, including the establishment of a permanent base in Poland. The base in Poland will mark the first time the US will establish an official permanent military facility in the area known as NATO’s “eastern flank.” The US military presence elsewhere in Eastern Europe and in the Baltic states is technically on a rotational basis, although Washington has no plans to scale back its presence in the region. Authored by Jack Phillips via The Epoch Times, President Joe Biden announced Thursday he would support ending the 60-vote Senate filibuster to pass bills to allow abortions at the federal level. During his campaign, Biden said that he wanted to keep the filibuster. When he entered office, Biden affirmed his support for the Senate rule. Biden was asked during the NATO summit in Spain on Thursday about keeping the rule in the midst of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. He said that the only way to respond is by Congress passing a law. “The foremost thing we should do […]
At the same time as it give the Biden admin a token victory by overturning Trump’s “remain in Mexico” rule, the US Supreme Court also struck a major blow to Biden’s fight against climate change, when in a landmark ruling, the SCOTUS also curbed the ability of America’s top environmental regulator to limit greenhouse gas emissions. In a majority opinion authored by chief justice John Roberts, the justices ruled that in the latest example of Democratic overreach, the Environmental Protection Agency was not specifically authorized by Congress to reduce carbon emissions when it was set up in 1970. The ruling leaves […]
Just when investors were hoping for a month- and quarter-end rebalancing uptick in stocks after the carnage of the last few months, US equity markets are ending the first half of the year on an ugly note with Nasdaq leading the charge lower… And recession fears have sent the 10Y Yield back below 3.00% for the first time since June 10th’s CPI print… Interestingly, rate-hike expectations are fading and subsequent rate-cut expectations are rising… But for now it appears stocks are more worried about The Fed driving us into recession than the post-recession easing and QE rebound. Russia has taken a major step in trying to demonstrate to Western powers that it’s serious about freeing up grain passage off Ukraine’s coast and in the Black Sea, with on Thursday its military announcing the complete withdrawal of forces from Ukraine’s Snake Island. The Russian Defense Ministry (MoD) said in a statement that the purpose is to free the passage of Ukraine’s grain exports in a “goodwill” measure. “On June 30, as a step of goodwill, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation completed their tasks on the Snake Island and withdrew from the garrison stationed there,” the MoD said. It was supposed to be a 7% ramp into month-end on billions in pension fund residual buying. Instead, it ended up being more or less the opposite, with crypto-led liquidations dragging futures and global markets lower, and extending Wednesday losses after central bankers issued warnings on inflation and fueled concern that aggressive policy will end with a hard-landing recession, which increasingly more now see as being 2022 business, an outcome that now appears assured especially after yesterday’s disastrous guidance cut from RH, the second in three weeks! Recession fears and inflation woes may be prolonged by today’s PCE deflator report. The […]
Despite looming sanctions and import bans, Russia exported $97.7 billion worth of fossil fuels in the first 100 days since its invasion of Ukraine, at an average of $977 million per day. So, which fossil fuels are being exported by Russia, and who is importing these fuels? The infographic below, via Visual Capitalist’s Niccolo Conte and Govind Bhutada, tracks the biggest importers of Russia’s fossil fuel exports during the first 100 days of the war based on data from the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA). UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has made her perhaps most provocative comments yet aimed at both Russia and China. It’s sure to result in swift protest and condemnation from Beijing, given she invoked the Taiwan comparison while expressing regret over not sending more weapons to beleaguered Ukraine sooner. She said Wednesday that the West needs to learn the lessons of Putin’s Ukraine invasion and apply them to Taiwan: “We should have done things earlier, we should have been supplying the defensive weapons into Ukraine earlier. We need to learn that lesson for Taiwan.” British Secretary for Foreign Affairs Liz Truss, AFP Her […]
By John Kemp, senior energy analyst at Reuters With global inventories steadily falling and spare capacity eroding, the oil market resembles a geological fault line in which stress is quietly accumulating and will eventually be relieved by an earthquake of as yet unknown magnitude. The most likely stress relief will come from a deceleration in oil consumption as a result of a recession or mid-cycle manufacturing slowdown in the major oil consuming economies of North America, Europe and Asia. Economic growth is already slowing in the United States and faltering in Europe and China under the combined impact of accelerating inflation, […]
Authored by Julianne Geiger via OilPrice.com, In the first quarter of next year, the countries of the European Union will have to cut their usage of natural gas by up to 30% in preparation for a complete stoppage of Russian gas flows, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). IEA Director Fatih Birol on Tuesday said that “a complete cut-off of Russian gas supplies to Europe could result in storage fill levels being well below average ahead of the winter, leaving the EU in a very vulnerable position.” “In the current context, I wouldn’t exclude a complete cut-off of gas exports […]
Following Moscow threatening to retaliate and escalate, it seems the European Union is seeking to rapidly defuse tensions after earlier in June giving Lithuania the go-ahead to block all rail and road transit of Russian goods going to Russia’s exclave of Kaliningrad. Some one million Russian citizens of Kaliningrad Oblast have been cut off from normal and vital reception of goods through neighboring EU-NATO member Lithuania since June 17 due to enforcement of EU sanctions against Moscow. But Reuters is reporting Wednesday that Brussels is ready to climb down quickly from its hard line sanctions enforcement stance, after last week the […]
Authored by Caitlin Johnstone via Medium.com, Turkey’s President Erdoğan has officially withdrawn Ankara’s objection to the addition of Finland and Sweden to NATO membership, with the three countries signing a trilateral memorandum at a NATO summit in Madrid. The removal of Erdoğan’s objection was reportedly obtained via significant natsec concessions from the other two nations largely geared toward facilitating Turkey’s ongoing conflict with regional Kurdish factions, and it removes the final obstacle to Finland and Sweden beginning the process of becoming NATO members. Finland’s addition will more than double the size of NATO’s direct border with Russia, a major national security concern for Moscow. “Sweden and Finland moved rapidly […]
By Andrew Thornebrooke of the Epoch Times A swarm of drones flies through the night sky over the Pacific. Shrouded in darkness and less than 100 miles from the California coastline, they go in groups of fours and sixes, stalking U.S. Navy vessels. They whir about over the ships’ bows, gathering intelligence to deliver to faceless masters. They match the speed of the naval vessels, flying unimpeded in low visibility for as long as four hours at a time. The alarmed crews of the ships have no idea where they came from or what their purpose is. This is not the […]

Churches across the US are working with homeless charities to construct tiny home communities amid one of the worst housing affordability crises ever. AP News says churches are using spare land to build tiny home communities to accommodate the homeless. On vacant plots near their parking lots and steepled sanctuaries, congregations are building everything from fixed and fully contained micro homes to petite, moveable cabins, and several other styles of small-footprint dwellings in between. Church leaders are not just trying to be more neighborly. The drive to provide shelter is rooted in their beliefs — they must care for the vulnerable, especially […]
Canada’s most expensive cities to live are starting to officially overtake the U.S.’s most expensive cities to live. In fact, Mississauga, Vancouver, and Hamilton are more expensive than well known expensive U.S. cities like Los Angeles and Chicago, according to a new study from Canadian insurance provider PolicyAdvisor. The study looked at the “10 biggest cities by population in each of Canada and the US based on the average cost of eight items in each – a cinema ticket, a meal out, a bottle of water, a cappuccino, one month of gym membership, a one way ticket and a monthly ticket on public transport as […]
The Biden administration’s cunning plan to garnish billions in taxes from crypto has reportedly hit a wall. The provision in the US infrastructure bill signed into law in November, which will require financial institutions and crypto brokers to report additional information, could reportedly be delayed. Bloomberg reports, according to people familiar with the matter, that the Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service are likely to push off a January 2023 date for the firms to begin tracking data such as customers’ capital gains and losses. Once rules are in place, exchanges and brokerages will have to send the detailed transaction […]
Last week we showed that with the Bloomberg Economics team now modeling in virtual certainty of a recession in the next 24 months… … and with consensus now expecting Fed rate hikes to peak in Q4 and rate cuts to begin in Q1 2023… … the only question is of timing: just when does the recession begin? To answer that question, we go to the latest survey of Wall Street professionals conducted by DB’s Jim Reid whose preliminary results were released today, and which finds that “the risk of a US recession by the end of 2023 has only been building […]
The Russian economy is currently experiencing unprecedented pressure from a group of countries led by the United States, with more than 10,000 sanctions imposed on the country, its citizens, and companies. Despite all the amplification of sanctions threats by the media, and vilification of anything Russian by western leaders, many of the world’s largest nations (by population and economy), are continuing to adjust to current conditions, ignoring the virtue-signaling, and sending Russia’s currency and current account balance soaring. But, in yet another example of the far-less-unified-than-Biden-claims new world order, it appears Indian industrialists have no problem dealing with Putin for their key materials. […]
It wasn’t long ago that the American Israel Public Affairs Committee had an overwhelming grip on both major parties in the United States. However, in the most striking indication yet that Democrats are slipping from AIPAC’s grasp, former New York mayor and current congressional candidate Bill de Blasio has publicly disowned the group. In a virtual candidate forum, NY Jewish Week asked de Blasio if he supported AIPAC. “No, I don’t,” he responded, adding that the group has changed in a manner he called “unacceptable.” Hammering home his stance, he said, “I am not seeking their endorsement and would not accept it even if […]
Authored by Jonathan Turley, Below is my column on the growing attacks on the legitimacy of the Supreme Court after the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. As the Court ends its term, Democratic leaders are calling for removing justices, packing the Court, and other extreme reactions to the decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. Here is the column: For justices, the end of a Supreme Court term usually brings welcomed vacations and speaking engagements out of town. This week it seemed more like the justices were fleeing the jurisdiction with a mob at their heels. Six justices (and their homes) are […]

An ugly third look at Q1 GDP – higher inflation, lower growth and consumption – just added to the current malaise in growth fears (and forecasts from sentiment surveys) today and the recession trade was back on with oil and stocks sold and bonds bid (and the dollar rallied perhaps more on safe haven liquidity needs into quarter-end). And all this right before PCE prints tomorrow which is expected to pick up… and initial claims which could be about to explode higher. The end-result is that rate-hike expectations have stalled (i.e. the market no longer believes The Fed will be hiking […]

It’s now abundantly clear that a decade of easy money, […]
US consumer sentiment and confidence have deteriorated for households amid slowing economic growth and persistently high inflation that suggests stagflation. A new study lends credibility to the current souring macroeconomic backdrop of high inflation and shortages, altering consumer lifestyles, behavior changes, and expectations, all of which show “Bidenomics” could be one greatest failures since the Carter administration of 1977-1981. Provident Bank, based in New Jersey, found that 83% of respondents slashed personal spending due to soaring prices of food and gasoline, with 23% indicating they had to make “drastic changes” to their spending for financial survival. According to the survey results […]
A $300 million superyacht owned by Russia’s wealthiest oligarch, Vladimir Potanin, has arrived in the safe haven of Dubai as the West tightens sanctions on Russia’s economy. Potanin, who is the CEO and majority shareholder of the world’s largest producer of refined nickel, Nornickel, has taken the precaution by transferring his 88-meter-long (289-foot-long) superyacht, called “Nirvana” to Dubai,” according to AP News. The arrival of Nirvana in Dubai has become a symbol of the UAE’s unwillingness to oppose Russia for its invasion of Ukraine and enforce Western sanctions. “One of a shrinking number of countries where Russians can still fly directly, the […]
The huge development out of the Madrid NATO summit yesterday was Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan dropping his veto over Finland and Sweden’s application for membership, unveiled in a joint communique issued by the three countries. Still, this major development hasn’t been much of a high priority for mainstream media coverage. On Wednesday, NATO has issued the formal invitation for Finland and Sweden to join the alliance. An official summit declaration began as follows: “Today, we have decided to invite Finland and Sweden to become members of NATO, and agreed to sign the Accession Protocols.” It continued: “In any accession to the Alliance, it is of […]
By Simon White, Bloomberg Markets Live analyst and reporter Forward earnings remain elevated, but profit estimates are most wrong when recessions hit. As recession risk rises, more timely indicators are pointing to the likelihood of an earnings recession later this year. Earnings, and what investors will pay for them, i.e. the P/E ratio, are over time the largest contribution to stocks’ total returns. The fall in the latter has been the main driver of lower returns this year. But multiples are now off 40% from their highs, while earnings have yet to contribute negatively. Using forward earnings to gauge what is […]
By Michael Every of Rabobank “and such small portions” Another messy market day with bond yields down slightly, stocks by more, and oil up a lot. That was on the back of ugly US data, in particular consumer confidence expectations tumbling to 66.4, the lowest in years, and China reducing quarantine times from two to one week, which despite suggestions that Zero Covid will stay for five years(!), is a possible sign of opening up. The irony is that if China does, or stimulates, growth will pick up, commodity prices will go up, and the Fed will have to act more […]
Cathie Wood finally offered up somewhat of a mea culpa – at least for her previous calls on inflation, though not quite so much for the underperformance of her flagship fund and her previous call that the market had bottomed back in January – on Tuesday of this week. After being bludgeoned in the face with data that was perpetually proving her prognostications incorrect, Wood told CNBC on Tuesday: “We were wrong on one thing, and that was inflation being as sustained as it has been.” But what would that mea culpa be without immediately falling back on her greatest hits, including […]
German inflation unexpectedly slowed in June, with harmonized CPI slowing from +8.7% YoY to +8.2% YoY, dramatically below expectations of a rise to +8.8% YoY. Notably, we have seen these ‘dips’ in inflation before on this surge, so let’s not get too excited… Source: Bloomberg As Bloomberg reports, the easing of inflationary pressures is largely due to temporary government relief measures – lower fuel taxes and discounted public-transport costs. Germany’s slowdown could extend into next month, when a renewable-energy charge on electricity prices is abolished, but underlying price pressures are likely to stay elevated, according to Berenberg economist Salomon Fiedler. However, inflation-fighters […]

The summit kicked off with a series of bilateral meetings on Sunday, before the bloc’s leaders will jointly discuss the most pressing global issues on Monday. Believe it or not, with inflation nearing 9%, it turns out that one job simply isn’t good enough to cut it anymore. At least that was the findings of a new study from Insuranks, that found that 93% of working Americans today have a side hustle. Popular side hustles include Uber, Etsy, DoorDash, and Depop, the report says. The study found that 50% of people who had a side hustle were women and 49% were men. It surveyed 1,006 full-time and part-time Americans workers about their side hustles and income, and respondents were 49% female, 49% male, and 2% transgender/non-binary. The age range […]

A naval mine was found near the second mooring area of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium’s (CPC) Black Sea terminal, according to Bloomberg, citing the facility’s press office and a statement from the port city of Novorossiysk, located on the Black Sea in southern Russia. The discovery of the sea mine near CPC’s second mooring didn’t shutter operations at the terminal. CPC’s third mooring will continue to operate. Reuters said CPC accounts for “around 1% of global oil trade,” and any disruption at the facility could impact crude oil prices. Bloomberg vessel-tracking data shows crude oil tanker “Prometheus Energy” is moored at […]
Authored by Nick Hubble via FortuneAndFredom.com, There’s an old adage that central banking is all about having the guts to “take away the punchbowl just when the party gets going”. Unfortunately for history, the man who said it also nicely demonstrated how hard it is to do. Actually, it’s not very hard at all. You just have to raise interest rates. That’s it. The challenge is putting up with the burning effigies with your face on them when you do. Anyway, William McChesney Martin Jr was chairman of the Federal Reserve between 1951 and 1970. So, he had plenty of opportunity […]
Authored by Kyle Anzalone via The Libertarian Institute, The Times spoke with an intelligence officer and two sergeants in the Ukrainian special forces elite Shaman battalion who claimed Kiev had conducted covert operations inside Russia. The officers said they successfully carried out raids involving explosions to sow confusion and dissent among Russians. One of the special operations officers explained the missions involved sabotage and explosives. “The most interesting missions are working behind enemy lines; planting explosives behind the front lines, beyond the border,” he said. The second sergeant indicated the Shaman battalion’s raid behind enemy lines was successful. He claimed, “The Russians […]

Authored by Pepe Escobar via The Cradle, The west is nostalgically caught up with outdated ‘containment’ policies, this time against Global South integration. Unfortunately for them, the rest of the world is moving on, together. Once upon a time, there existed an Iron Curtain which divided the continent of Europe. Coined by former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, the term was in reference to the then-Soviet Union’s efforts to create a physical and ideological boundary with the west. The latter, for its part, pursued a policy of containment against the spread and influence of communism. Fast forward to the contemporary era […]
Hollywood is dying, their various partners are dying, and they brought it on themselves. The entertainment and corporate news industry has long had a cringe inducing leftist bias, but for many years their propaganda and their motivations remained comparatively subtle. Then, something happened. Maybe it was the election of Donald Trump, maybe it was a unified decision within corporate culture to take the mask completely off and reveal the true ugliness underneath, or, maybe it was just pure arrogance. Whatever the cause, Hollywood and all the related appendages of the tinsel town religion suddenly turned openly militant and the zealotry was […]
Who hasn’t gone all out for the random Tuesday night bender and hit the sake a little too hard after a tough start to the work week? Plenty of us. When narrowing down that field to the workers who have also passed out on the street and lost a flash drive containing the personal information of nearly 500,000 people, the herd thins out a little bit. But according to Vice, that’s exactly what happened to one Japanese businessman in his 40s this past week. He ventured out for drinks in Osaka prefecture’s industrial Amagasaki city before waking up, hours later, on the street. His bag – […]
Authored by Rowdy Yates via BitcoinMagazine.com, Traditionally, hard money has the two main qualities of autonomy and correlated-redeemability, but bitcoin has the former without the latter… WHAT’S IT BACKED BY? One of the most common criticisms from nocoiners remains, “But bitcoin isn’t backed by anything.” This criticism targets bitcoin’s dearth of a quality that I term “correlated-redeemability.” The most common rejoinder to this criticism is, “Your U.S. dollar isn’t backed by anything either.” The problem with this factually correct response is that it misses a deeper point. The deeper point is that while bitcoin lacks one traditional quality of hard money […]
Authored by Frank Shostak via The Epoch Times, Currently the world is on a fiat money standard – a government-issued currency that is not backed by a commodity such as gold. The fiat standard is the primary cause behind the present economic instability, and is tempted to suggest that a gold standard would reduce instability. The majority of experts however, oppose this idea on the ground that the gold standard is in fact a factor of instability. For instance, the former Federal Reserve Board chairman Ben Bernanke echoed this opposition in his lecture at the George Washington University on March 20, […]
Authored by Matt Taibbi via TK News, Last Thursday, I sat in a studio in Newark for the above interview with Ben Shapiro. It was a wide-ranging and oddly friendly discussion between a former Breitbart staffer and the author of Andrew Breitbart’s mostly infamously obscene obituary, in which the fact that the interview could even happen at all was among the most interesting things about it (more on this on a Callin discussion tomorrow). Ben and I talked about how it was the political left that years ago was famous for being willing to engage anyone, while the business model of […]

Submitted by QTR’s Fringe Finance As it relates to inflation, the Biden administration has publicly shot itself (and the middle class) in the foot and, rather than address their errors and admit wrongdoing, they have instead been unfairly using the oil and gas industry as a scapegoat for problems that the administration helped create. Any attempt to encroach on Crimea is a declaration of war against our country,” Medvedev told a regional news site, as quoted in Reuters. “And if this is done by a NATO member-state, this means conflict with the entire North Atlantic alliance; a World War Three. A complete catastrophe,” he warned. AFP […]
Authored by Lance Roberts via RealInvestmentAdvice.com, An earnings recession is coming as the Fed hikes rates which accelerates an economic recession. Such should be no surprise given earnings are derived from economic activity. However, despite economic growth already showing signs of weakness, inflation running at the highest level in 40-years, and the Fed moving aggressively to tighten monetary policy, Wall Street analysts continue to suggest strong profit margins and rising earnings into 2023. The Fed raised interest rates last week by 75 basis points, the biggest increase since the mid-1990s, to curb inflation. The central bank indicated it would keep lifting rates, a […]
China unexpectedly slashed quarantine times for international travelers, to just one week, which suggests Beijing is easing COVID zero policies. The nationwide relaxation of pandemic restrictions led investors to buy Chinese stocks. Inbound travelers will only quarantine for ten days, down from three weeks, which shows local authorities are easing draconian curbs on travel and economic activity as they worry about slumping economic growth sparked by restrictive COVID zero policies earlier this year that locked down Beijing and Shanghai for months (Shanghai finally lifted its lockdown measures on May 31). “This relaxation sends the signal that the economy comes first … It […]

Authored by Paul Joseph Watson via Summit News, ‘Fact checkers’ are demanding that YouTube censor more videos for “misinformation,” with one of the reasons being that no one is watching their content. Well, this is awkward. The censorship demand was made during the GlobalFact 9, a fact-checking conference organized by the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN). “As an international network of fact-checking organizations, we monitor how lies spread online — and every day, we see that YouTube is one of the major conduits of online disinformation and misinformation worldwide. Going into this week’s NATO summit in Madrid, set to run Tuesday through Thursday, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has announced what surely be taken by Moscow has another huge escalation on the military front. Stoltenberg announced at a Monday press briefing that NATO is drastically beefing up its high-readiness forces to “well over 300,000.” This would be up from current levels of 40,000 total, or a whopping 650% boost. The large increase is expected to be taken up and approved at this week’s summit, at a moment there’s been urgent calls in the alliance for beefing up NATO bases in Eastern Europe and the […]
The recent BRICS summit managed to run its course this past week with very little fanfare, despite the fact that Russia is in the midst of a conflict with Ukraine that has led to a worldwide economic war. China is edging towards a potential invasion of Taiwan, and much of the planet is in the middle of a stagflationary crisis in the meantime. The one major takeaway from the summit was the reaffirmed stance of the BRICS that they would continue to work closely with Russia in economic terms. In Sweden, the number of gang-related crimes is increasing every year, and as a result of mass and uncontrolled immigration, the authorities are losing control over more and more areas where migrant gangs are taking power. “It is not enough for many immigrants to come to Sweden from a less developed country and enjoy the benefits. They want excitement and want to get rich quickly,” […]
Authored by Cnythia Chung via ‘Through A Glass Darkly’ Substack, Disagreement has become an extremely sensitive issue lately; it was once thought that debate was an essential component to a strong and healthy democracy, however, we are now told that it is extremely dangerous, in fact, it may soon be categorised as a form of domestic terrorism. [This article was originally published January 27, 2021.] As early as mid-Nov 2020, Biden was already discussing the need to pass further laws against domestic terrorism. This is interesting since under the 2001 Patriot Act (which was meant to be a temporary enforcement in reaction to 9/11, […]
Authored by Igor Chudov via Igor’s Newsletter, This is a continuation of my post from yesterday about a massive 13% decline in births in Germany. Such a decline is a nine-sigma event, meaning that it is so unlikely to occur by chance, that it would naturally happen as rarely as an asteroid striking the Earth. My article explored several more locales (UK, North Dakota, and Switzerland). But no other place stands out as much as Taiwan does. 23% Drop in Birth Rate in Taiwan According to a Taiwan government report, the birth rate dropped by 23.24% in May 2022, compared to […]

The Republican Party has been picking up support over the past year, as more than 1 million voters across 43 states switched to the GOP, according to voter registration data analyzed by the Associated Press. More than 1 million voters across 43 states have switched to the Republican Party over the last year, according to voter registration data analyzed by The Associated Press. The previously unreported number reflects a phenomenon that is playing out in virtually every region of the country — Democratic and Republican states along with cities and small towns — in the period since President Joe Biden replaced […]
Gun permits have rarely been issued in Nigeria—but that’s about to change. In the face of rampant violence by huge gangs of heavily armed bandits, one state governor has ordered the mass issuance of gun permits to citizens desperate for a chance to protect themselves. For over a decade, Nigerians living in the country’s northwestern states have endured an endless plague of looting, kidnapping and murder at the hands of gangs and ethnic militias, which Nigerians call bandits. The violence has taken its steepest toll on the states of Zamfara and Kaduna. The bandits operate from bases in remote forests where terrain […]

The New York Supreme Court on Monday struck down a NYC law allowing noncitizens to vote, handing a victory to the Republican National Committee (RNC) which filed a lawsuit against the law in January. The Court said in its decision that the city has no legal authority to allow illegal immigrants to vote, according to the Daily Caller. “There is no statutory ability for the City of New York to issue inconsistent laws permitting non-citizens to vote and exceed the authority granted to it by the New York State Constitution,” wrote the court. “Though voting is a right that so many […]
Authored by Charles Hugh Smith via OfTwoMinds blog, It’s very difficult to find common ground that supports cooperation in the disintegrative stage of scarcities, rising prices, catastrophically centralized power and social discord. Today’s topic echoes Peter Turchin’s 2016 book, Ages of Discord, which I have often referenced in blog posts. I’ll also discuss two other books I’ve often referenced, Global Crisis: War, Climate Change and Catastrophe in the Seventeenth Century by Geoffrey Parker and The Great Wave: Price Revolutions and the Rhythm of History by David Hackett Fischer. Turchin proposes repeating cycles of history of social integration (people finding reasons to cooperate) and disintegration (people finding reasons […]
An Amtrak train with 243 passengers derailed on the way to Iowa near Mendon, Missouri, on Monday, according to CNN’s Pete Muntean. DEVELOPING: Amtrak confirms to me a train derailment in Mendon, Missouri. 243 passengers on board. Reports of injuries. More info coming. — Pete Muntean (@petemuntean) June 27, 2022 A passenger told The Daily Beast the derailment appeared to be a “mass casualty event.” Ron Goulet from Flagstaff, Arizona, said he was uninjured when the train hit a truck and jumped the tracks, resulting in the derailment. “They’ve got every rescue helicopter and crew here from every direction. “We are in Chariton County, […]
The Supreme Court has once again ruled for conservatives, this time ruling in the case of Kennedy v. Bremerton that public school officials violated a high school coach’s First Amendment rights when they fired him for repeatedly praying at the 50-yard line during football games – during which students would join him of their own free will. In a 6-3 opinion authored by Justice Neil Gorsuch, coach Joseph Kennedy’s case marked a huge victory for religious and conservative groups who had long-hoped to reintroduce prayer in public schools after it was previously ruled unconstitutional in 1962. “The Constitution and the best […]
After an ugly, tailing 2Y auction 90 minutes earlier, moments ago the Treasury concluded the second auction for the day in this week’s accelerated issuance schedule, when it sold $47 billion in 5Y paper at a high yield of 3.271%. This was notably not only because it was a whopping 53.5bps higher than the May high yield of 2.736%, but was the highest yield since 2007. More importantly, this was also the biggest tail for teh 5Y tenor since at least 2016 when our records begin. It only went downhill from there: the bid to cover was just as ugly, printing […]
“In the UK, the price level for goods other than energy and food has risen by 8 per cent over the past two years,” FT writes of soaring prices at a moment of the West’s no holds barred push to ‘punish’ Russia over the Ukraine invasion. Inflation in the county has hit a new 40-year high of 9.1% as of last week,. To nobody’s shock or surprise, and in a message that echoes previous statements from Biden, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said while attending the G7 summit in Germany it’s a price “worth paying”. Authored by Steve Watson via Summit News, In the wake of the Supreme Court overturning Roe vs Wade, Joe Biden described the U.S. as “an outlier among developed nations in the world” as far as abortion laws are concerned, a term that was echoed by globalist talking heads and confirmed to by true by so called ‘fact checkers’. It’s not though. Fox News anchors Pete Hegseth and Will Cain presented a segment Sunday that outlined how much of the ‘developed’ world actually has more restrictive laws on abortions than America. The pair noted that in Ireland and Germany, abortions are banned in practically all cases after 12 […]
In the latest bizarro move by western nations meant to hurt Russia, but will blow back and help Putin get even richer while impoverishing western motorists with even higher gas prices, G7 leaders meeting at a Bavarian Alp summit, plan to impose a “price cap” on Russian oil as the group works to curb Moscow’s ability to finance its war in Ukraine, the FT reported. The latest sanction follows news that the same G7 will also impose an import ban on Russian gold, which western nations already can’t buy, and which will only push even more physical gold into the willing […]
Without having a blockbuster event to look forward to this week, and with the July 4th holiday next week meaning many traders will be on vacation and liquidity will be even more challenging, DB’s Jim Reid notes that there are plenty of things to keep us occupied in what are highly uncertain times. Perhaps the ECB’s Forum on Central Banking in Sintra will be the key event to watch, with a policy panel on Wednesday which will bring together Chair Powell, President Lagarde and Governor Bailey together the likely highlight. Staying in Europe, all eyes will be on the June CPI […]
Authored by Ron Paul via Birch Gold Group, Way back in 1982, two interesting things happened. The first was the publication of the minority report fellow Gold Commission member Lewis Lehrman and I co-wrote as The Case for Gold. (I’m currently working with Birch Gold Group to release a new edition of this book in the near future.) Now, I understand that might not be as interesting to everyone as it was to sound-money advocates like myself. I’m sure you remember the second interesting thing, though… Here’s how journalist David Owen described it: Several years ago, Walter Luhrman, a metallurgist in southern Ohio, […]
Authored by Michael Boskin via Project Syndicate, Dangerously high inflation has left Americans deeply dissatisfied with the economy and likely to punish the Democrats in this year’s midterm elections. US President Joe Biden would be wise to follow the example of his predecessor Bill Clinton, lest he end up sharing a political fate similar to Jimmy Carter’s. Thirty years ago, Democratic political strategist James Carville focused Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign with the mantra, “It’s the economy, stupid.” America had just experienced a relatively brief, mild recession, owing partly to sharply rising oil prices following Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait. Between the […]
Researchers from the University of Georgia (UGA) find a whopping 75% of teens aren’t getting enough exercise and suggest it may have to do with students’ school environment. “The length of recess, physical facilities and social environments at schools have been found to affect physical activity among students,” lead study author Janani R. Thapa, an associate professor of health policy and management at UGA’s College of Public Health, told the university’s newspaper. Thapa and her co-authors examined data of 362,926 students (48% males and 52% females) from the Georgia Student Health Survey, revealing the alarming inactivity among teens. The data included eight […]
As summer solstice marks the official beginning of summer in the Northern hemisphere, holiday season is quickly approaching. After two summers with subdued travel due to Covid-19, Statista’s Felix Richter reports a significant rebound in travel activity is expected this year. You will find more infographics at Statista According to findings from Europ Assistance’s 2022 Holiday Barometer, 71 percent of Europeans and 60 percent of Americans are planning a trip this summer, up 14 and 10 percent from last year, respectively. That puts travel intentions across Europe even higher than 2019, while the U.S. still trails pre-pandemic holiday activity. A look at […]
Submitted by Jack Raines via Young Money, A few things going on in the world today: War in Ukraine Global pandemic Political uncertainty Crashing financial markets $7 gas Layoffs Inflation And we are only two years into this century’s “Roaring 20s.” There is so much chaos in the world today that it’s easy to say “life sucks, the world sucks, and everything sucks.” Today, I am asking you to consider a different, more optimistic take: Life is good. In fact, it isn’t just good. Life is the best that it has ever been. Turn Back the Clock Death If we were living […]
The on-time payment period for UN member contributions ends at the end of February for any given year, but – as Statista’s Katharina Buchholz shows in the chart below – many members habitually pay late. You will find more infographics at Statista As of June 22, 2022, less than half of the UN’s budget of just more than $3 billion had come in, which is the equivalent of 107 countries having paid their dues. In 2021, 113 had paid by the end of May and one year previous to that, 101 – showing that despite many late payments, 2022 is just about an […]

Authored by Tom Luongo via Gold, Goats, ‘n Guns blog. I sat down last weekend for a long chat with Alexander Mercouris of The Duran and Crypto Rich to discuss the rapidly evolving situation in Europe. Long time readers know that I’ve been handicapping the collapse of the European Union for years. That idea isn’t based on my personal antipathy for Eurotrash commies and eugenicists, though it is quite large. In fact, the deeper we go into 2022 the more that antipathy rises to near unquenchable levels. The sheer arrogance and stupidity of Europe’s leadership is nothing short of breathtaking. Today we are looking at […]
By Eric Peters, CIO of One River Asset Management “The Fed is “all in” on re-establishing price stability,” Fed Governor Waller pronounced in pleasantly direct language. “Experience has shown that markets need time to adjust to a turn from accommodation to tightening.” In response to questions, Waller spoke with blunt determination: “I don’t care what’s causing inflation, it’s too high, it’s my job to get it down. The higher rates and the path that we’re putting them on, it’s going to put downward pressure on demand across all sectors.” Powell offered his own sober message, “A soft landing is our goal. […]
A new talk by Professor John J. Mearsheimer has recently been made public, wherein the famous author and political science theorist details the causes and consequences of the Ukraine war. Mearsheimer became more well-known, and “controversial” in establishment circles, after it emerged that he clearly predicted going back to 2014 the war which kicked off in Feb. 2022. He had said in a 2014 University of Chicago lecture, “The West is leading Ukraine down the primrose path and the end result is Ukraine is going to get wrecked.” This tragedy for the Ukrainian people is playing out now, with little hope that now totally […]
The mysterious “Jetpack Man” was reportedly spotted by a commercial airline pilot in the skies over Los Angeles last Thursday. “We heard that the jetpack man is back,” an air traffic controller at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) said in audio obtained by FOX 11. FAA confirmed that an “airline pilot reported seeing an object that might have resembled a jetpack 15 miles east of Los Angeles International Airport” on Thursday afternoon. “The FAA has worked closely with the FBI to investigate every reported jetpack sighting,” the agency said, indicating “so far no sightings have not been verified.” This is not the first time sightings of […]

By Simon Black of Sovereign Man In a report called Barriers to Business, the Institute for Justice (IJ) analyzed 20 US cities for how easy it is to open five different types of businesses. To cover a range, those businesses included a restaurant, a retail bookstore, a food truck, a barbershop, and a home-based tutoring business. Entrepreneurs who want to start a restaurant, for example, have 13 different fees totaling $5,300, on average across the 20 cities. In San Francisco, those fees reach $22,648. Remember, these costs and regulatory hurdles are all in addition to the normal costs and work of […]
A fresh New York Times report has confirmed what many already suspected – that the CIA is still very active inside Ukraine – especially with training as well coordinating weapons among its Ukrainian allies. The Times report details “a stealthy network of commandos and spies rushing to provide weapons, intelligence and training,” based on US and European intelligence officials with knowledge of the operations. The report says Ukrainian forces are reliant on this Western clandestine network “more than ever” while outgunned by the Russians. This comes months after investigative journalist Zach Dorfman’s bombshell expose in Yahoo News which detailed how a prior 8-year long […]
The US State Department is readying six-figure payments for the victims of mysterious brain injuries known as “Havana Syndrome,” according to AP, citing officials and a congressional aide. Alex Sandoval Both current and former State Department staff and their families who suffered “qualifying injuries” since 2016 will receive payments between $100,000 and $200,000 each – with specific amounts to be based on the severity of the victims’ injuries. The payments will only cover victims employed by the State Department as well as their dependents – around 20% of cases – while other victims will have to seek compensation from whatever federal […]
Authored by Naveen Anthrapully via The Epoch Times, Following the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling to overturn Roe v. Wade, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin issued a statement suggesting that the Defense Department intends to maintain the military’s access to abortion. “Nothing is more important to me or to this Department than the health and well-being of our Service members, the civilian workforce, and DOD families. I am committed to taking care of our people and ensuring the readiness and resilience of our Force. The Department is examining this decision closely and evaluating our policies to ensure we continue to provide seamless access to reproductive […]
Up to 40,000 Army National Guard troops – around 13% of the force – could be fired for not getting the mandated COVID-19 vaccine (which has limited efficacy against Omicron, doesn’t stop transmission, has been linked to elevated heart problems, and has been mandated for a healthy demographic that rarely dies of the disease). Michigan Army National Guard Sgt. Mark Abbott administers a COVID-19 vaccine Guard soldiers have until Thursday to get the jab, according to the Associated Press, which notes that between 20% and 30% of Guard soldiers in six states remain unvaccinated. “We’re going to give every soldier every […]
Retirees face the harsh realities of not generating enough retirement income to sustain current spending habits amid the worst inflation in four decades. Millions of Americans living out their golden years are readjusting their retirement income and altering spending behaviors to survive the inflation storm sparked by the Federal Reserve and the federal government’s spending spree during COVID that sparked inflation which has since become a significant policy error. The Fed has since unleashed the most aggressive quantitative tightening scheme in decades to tame inflation and could easily tip the economy into recession later this year or in 2023. Financial turmoil […]

While everyone has been transfixed by the unexpected drop in the UMich 5/10 year inflation expectations, which dropped to 3.1% from a preliminary 3.3% print, which means that the alarm signal that prompted the Fed to panic last week and prompted the market to aggressively reprice (lower) the odds of future Fed hikes… … the report also showed the lowest consumer sentiment reading in the 70-year history of the series, realistically speaking a far more troubling indicator than what a small group of respondents think inflation will be in 10 years (spoiler alert, it will be much higher than they expect). In recent commentary reacting to the Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade, prominent CNN pundit and co-host of The View Ana Navarro “shocked” by bluntly suggesting live on air that some of her own special needs family members, her brother included, should have been… well, we’ll let her say it: “I am not anybody to tell you what you need to do with your life or with your uterus.” She then mentioned special needs people in her family, saying, “I have a family with a lot of special needs kids. I have a brother who’s 57 and has the mental and […]
Median rents in the US crossed the $2000 mark this past month for the first time ever, while rental markets surged 15% – 20% in a single year depending on the region. This is yet another trend which supports the position that official CPI is inaccurate and overall inflation is actually much higher than the central bank and the Biden White House reports. The latest CPI print indicates an “official” inflation rate of 8.6%, while REAL inflation is closer 17% according to pre-1990s calculations. The continued denial of real inflation rates is causing confusion among Americans who are facing vastly larger […]
If Congress won’t ban AR-15s, Democratic Rep. Don Beyer (VA) wants to slap a 1,000% tax on them – which would of course mean only people with lots of money, such as drug dealers and rich people, could afford them, while punishing lower-income Americans. Introduced last week, Beyer’s Assault Weapons Excise Act has 36 Democratic co-sponsors, according to the Washington Post. The group hopes the idea might bypass the Senate filibuster, which would require the support of at least 10 Republicans. According to Beyer, the idea is to increase the price to such a degree that it significantly limits who’s able […]
Authored by Mark Jeftovic via BombThrower.com, The folks at The World Economic Forum, led by Klaus Schwab, never tire of “reimagining” everything. From food chains, digital identity, healthcare, even reimagining capitalism itself, everything seems to be on the table. Our betters at Davos have taken it upon themselves to make every aspect of our lives fair game for being reimagined, reconstituted, recalibrated, reordered and reset. Always along top-down technocratic lines they dream up at their exclusive, invite-only confabs. I don’t know about you, but I can’t remember asking nor empowering anybody else to reimagine my own life. I figure that’s my job. Shouldn’t we tell these guys […]
