Microsoft Green Lights Permanent Telecommuting For It’s Employees – NewsWars

Microsoft has announced that much of its staff may opt to work from home or telecommute permanently, subject to manager approval, in a move that signals a major shift in how businesses manage their work staff.

Microsoft joins Facebook and Twitter who have made the decision to expand the option into their workforces.

The emergence of permanent telecommuting for office employees may have been born of the coronavirus pandemic, but it could prove a financial boon for many large office companies.

“We will offer as much flexibility as possible to support individual workstyles, while balancing business needs, and ensuring we live our culture,” Kathleen Hogan, Microsoft’s Chief People Officer told employees.

Internal Microsoft documents stated that the company will also help full-time remote workers relocate.

A recent PricewaterhouseCoopers poll found that about 55 percent of employers expect their employees to work from home at least one day a week in the post-coronavirus world.

The survey also found that over 80 percent of workers wanted to telecommute at least one day every week. Thirty-two percent of those polled said they wanted to telecommute to work 100 percent of the time.
