A veteran editor at Folha de S.Paulo, Brazil’s biggest newspaper, criticizes colleagues for failing to adequately report and prepare the public for an imminent coup attempt by Bolsonaro and the Armed Forces. “It can no longer be treated as a risk, but rather as a certainty of harm to institutions and the country.” – José Henrique Mariante In a chilling column in Folha de S.Paulo newspaper, quietly published at 11:15pm on 7th May 2022, José Henrique Mariante, a veteran journalist, editor and currently Folha ombudsman, urged fellow journalists, and his own newspaper, to acknowledge the dark moment Brazil faces. The Nicaraguan delegation to the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) firmly and categorically denounced, on Friday, February 18, the OAS’ notification for scheduling a special session of its member states to address “the situation in Nicaragua.” Previously, the OAS had issued a declaration condemning alleged lack of legal guarantees in Nicaragua and what it considered as human rights violations perpetrated by the government of Nicaragua. Such declarations of the OAS referred to the judicial procedures being carried out in Nicaragua against some […]
Above Photo: Djandyw.com / Flickr. As The Canary has consistently reported, the US-backed coup attempt in Venezuela has been degenerating into an increasingly pathetic and embarrassing spectacle. Now, in one final gasp of desperation, Juan Guaidó has called for a fresh round of protests next month. But it looks like he and his dwindling band of followers’ hopes of toppling the government will soon be dashed. Because there are now growing calls for his prosecution for crimes including treason. Washington and its mouthpieces in the corporate-owned media will surely crow that this somehow constitutes ‘proof’ of the Venezuelan government’s authoritarian nature. But the reality is that the US is, if anything, even […]

Earlier in the week, the Michigan attorney general, Dana Nessel, announced that several militia group members had been taken into custody on charges of domestic terrorism for what is described as a plot to kidnap the state’s governor, Gretchen Whitmer. A sheriff in Barry County, Michigan, named Dar Leaf, who took part in anti-lockdown protests with the militants who were taken into custody for allegedly participating in a plot to kidnap Governor Gretchen Whitmer, suggested during an interview earlier in the week that the men were only attempting to “arrest”, not “kidnap” the governor. Speaking to Fox 17 Michigan reporter Aaron Parseghian, […]
Former President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev has been detained “in relation to riots” after he accused the secret services of plotting to kill him. He was released from prison when his supporters surrounded it on Tuesday. Atambayev is being held in relation to a criminal case about staging mass riots, according to the State Committee for National Security (GKNB). There were also reports that the former president’s two sons were detained as well, but the GKNB denied this. On Friday, Atambayev spoke at a rally in the center of the country’s capital, Bishkek. The event spiraled into scuffles between his supporters […]
According to prosecutors, twins Michael and William Null are a part of a militia group who conspired to overthrow the government, kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and put her on trial for “treason.” But according to a Michigan sheriff, who once shared the stage with one of the twins at an anti-Whitmer rally, they might have only wanted to perform a citizen’s arrest on the Democratic governor, calling the bombshell allegations “just a charge.” “It’s just a charge, and they say a ‘plot to kidnap’ and you got to remember that. Are they trying to kidnap? Because a lot of people […]

Earlier in Maryland, a handful of Trump campaign signs were among those “supplied” with suspicious devices. They were later determined by bomb squads to be harmless sound alarms which would make a noise if an attempt was made to move the sign. A township worker in Michigan received 13 stitches in his hand after it was sliced by a Trump-Pence campaign sign which was boobytrapped with razor blades, according to reports by local media. The worker reportedly pulled over to remove the Trump-Pence sign that was too close to the road and “thought it was electrocuted” because of the razor blades it […]
Facebook and other technology giants have become the subject of controversy, being accused by government bodies of stymieing competition with their acquisition of other companies as well as impacting politics and freedom of expression. Legal representatives of Facebook Inc. have warned that attempting to break-up social media giants like Instagram and WhatsApp would defy established law, cost billions, and harm consumers. Amid rising antitrust legal threats, the lawyers produced a 14-page document, reportedly seen by The Wall Street Journal, which includes a glimpse of the social media giant’s defense. According to the WSJ, the document was formulated based on work it commissioned from legal officers […]
The Starlink v1.0 Launch 12 mission is preparing to take off at 9:17am EDT (13:17 UTC) on Thursday morning from LC-39A at Kennedy Space Center. This will be the third attempt to get the mission off the ground. The weather forecast shows a 70% chance of favorable weather at T-0 with the primary concern being the Thick Cloud Rule. If a delay is needed, there is another opportunity the next day. During the previous launch attempt on September 28th, the Falcon 9 was fueled and the countdown proceeded to T- 31 seconds, when a scrub was called due to weather. The […]

Liftoff from the Pacific Spaceport Complex in Kodiak, Alaska, is scheduled for a window from 7:00 to 9:30 pm PDT on September 10 (02:00 to 04:30 UTC on Sept. 11). The launch attempt is the latest following a series of scrubs and delays as Astra’s launch team has fought weather conditions, a boat entering the range and failing to evacuate, and technical issues including a problem with the sound suppression system. This launch will be the third for Astra, following two […]
The man suspected of fatally shooting a supporter of the right-wing Patriot Prayer group during demonstrations in Portland last weekend was killed late Thursday when a task force came to arrest him, The New York Times reports. Citing three law enforcement officials, the Times said Michael Forest Reinoehl was killed in Lacey, Washington. There were no details about the circumstances that led to his death, apart from the fact that authorities had attempted to arrest him in the wake of an arrest warrant being issued earlier in the day. Reinoehl, a 48-year-old anti-fascist activist who was a fixture at recent anti-racism […]
The whistleblower from defunct cryptocurrency firm Bitsonar has reappeared after going missing for three days in Kyiv, Ukraine, saying law enforcement faked his kidnapping – and murder – to foil a genuine attempt on his life. Yaroslav Shtadchenko went missing last Thursday, with video evidence suggesting he had been abducted. He contacted CoinDesk on Monday afternoon local time, saying that he was safe. He said that the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) had staged the event after his murder had been ordered. SSU reported Monday that it had used such tactics to foil an attempted contract killing, with an agent posing […]
Many assumed despite playing a prominent role in Belarus’ opposition, Svetlana Alexievich’s fame made her somewhat ‘untouchable.’ Nevertheless, the 2015 Nobel Prize in Literature winner was summoned for questioning on Wednesday. The Belarusian Investigative Committee wanted to ‘discuss’ the case it has opened against the country’s opposition for allegedly making “calls to seize state power.” The writer, who sits on the movement’s ‘Coordination Council’, arrived at the committee’s building accompanied by other council presidium members Pavel Latushko, Maxim Znak and Maria Kolesnikova. After the meeting ended, Alexievich told journalists that the movement is not strong enough to resolve its political dispute with […]

White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows has raised eyebrows on social media after claiming in a discussion with CNN’s Jake Tapper that a lack of evidence of widespread voter fraud is in fact “the definition” of fraud. During the lengthy verbal battle in which neither Tapper or Meadows budged from their respective positions, the CNN host insisted universal mail-in voting in November’s presidential election will not lead to fraud because various states already engage in mail-in voting and have no issues. Meadows, meanwhile, insisted that while mail-in voting can work in some states, to do it nationwide would lead to […]
Portland rioters learned a valuable lesson about how motorcycles cannot stop trucks while attacking a motorist on Tuesday evening. Late in the evening, rioters were attempting to block off a street when a man driving a truck pulled up and attempted to navigate his way through. Instead of letting him pass, they attacked him and his vehicle, slashing his tires, breaking his window, and throwing a motorcycle in front of it in an attempt to block him in. Instead, the man dragged the motorcycle for 12 blocks before stopping and confronting the militant leftists who were chasing him with his gun […]
President Donald Trump attacked Dr. Deborah Birx for the first time on Monday after the White House coronavirus task force coordinator said she believed the virus had entered a “new phase” and that counties with significant community spread should not reopen schools in the fall. Birx’s comments came on CNN just two days after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) criticized her in a meeting with administration officials, calling her “the worst.” One Democratic aide said Pelosi was referencing Birx’s apparent deference to the president’s inaccurate statements about the virus, including that ingesting bleach should be studied as a possible cure. “She’s […]
The Starship SN5 prototype is set to attempt a 150-meter test flight as early as Monday from Boca Chica, Texas. The hop will be the first flight of a full-scale Starship tank section. If the hop is successful, it will clear the way for SpaceX to attempt higher altitude flights with Starship prototypes. The launch window for Monday’s hop lasts from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Central (13:00 – 01:00 UTC). However, the hop is currently targeting liftoff during the later portion of the window. Testing schedules are extremely fluid, and SpaceX is unlikely to confirm the official target launch time. […]

But don’t be surprised if you see this document tacked up as motivational material in some classrooms next year. It’s a death certificate — at least, Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas says it was supposed to pass as a death certificate from New Jersey. The Long Island prosecutor alleges that Robert Berger, 25, tried to forge a legal document last October in a bid to fake his own death and dodge a likely jail sentence. China guarantees to buy Iran crude for 25 years: Ex-envoy [ Editor’s Note: As VT has editorialized, the Deep State unipolarism plan is backfiring, but with a catch. The US dreams of colonizing the Persian Gulf with its junkyard dog Israel are just that, dreams. The 25 year deal with China put all the nails in the coffin on that. The Caribbean island nation first opened the door to the redollarization of the economy in late 2019, rolling back a 15-year-old policy established by Fidel Castro in 2004 to stop accepting the US currency as payment in some stores amid the intensification of banking sanctions pressure by Washington. Cuba has moved to repeal a 10 percent tax on payments in US dollars, and broadened the variety of goods which can be bought with the US currency in an effort to improve the economic situation in the country, Granma has reported.
