Above Photo: Virginia Class nuclear submarine. (General Dynamics). Until we see a text, if any, of the executive agreement for the AUKUS thing-a-ma-gig, the only real meat of it seems to be the Australian purchase of nuclear US or UK subs rather than the “conventionally” (not really) powered French design. The more I look over the submarine alternatives for the Australians, the less sense their decision to go nuclear makes. Australia has no nuclear power infrastructure; they will be dependent on the US or UK to provide same for any nuclear powered Australian attack subs. For Australia to develop same on […]

Donald Trump insured that the fly, not Mike Pence or that “monster,” Kamala Harris, who womansplained to the vice president, would be the story coming out of the vice presidential debate by calling into Fox News before the sun was barely up. He delivered a message to that pesky Commission on Presidential Debates to take its virtual debate scheduled for Thursday and shove it. There’s no need to go virtual, since he’s “not contagious at all.” Or so says Dr. Trump, who knows more than his physicians, who can’t offer a second opinion because of blanket NDAs. What’s all the fuss? […]
After leaving the hospital on Monday following three-day therapy there, President Donald Trump asserted he felt way better than he “did 20 years ago”, with his medical team stating that their evaluations, and “most importantly his clinical status, support the president’s safe return home”. Claudia Conway, the 15-year-old daughter of Donald Trump’s former adviser Kellyanne Conway, says Trump is not doing “better” after being diagnosed with COVID-19 despite recent photo-ops and returning to the White House, as follows from her recent TikTok post. Kellyanne Conway is in constant contact with Trump–she remains one of his most trusted advisers. Her daughter, Claudia […]
A Chicago man known as the “Census Cowboy” faces a felony charge after riding his horse more than 7 miles down a freeway without the proper footwear, severely injuring the animal, which prosecutors say may have to be euthanized. Adam Hollingsworth, 33, was arrested earlier this week on charges linked to animal cruelty, reckless conduct, trespassing and other traffic offenses after staging a stunt on the Dan Ryan Expressway on horseback, shutting down the freeway as he rode the animal at galloping speed on rough pavement, critically wounding it. Speaking publicly for the first time after bailing out of Cook County […]
San Francisco may become the first city to set a new trend of voting at the age of 16 and 17. While some San Franciscans believe the measure is justified and is likely to make voting a habit from an early age, others warn against burdening teenagers with decisions they are too young to make. In November, San Franciscans will cast their ballots to determine whether 16 and 17-year-old teens can be allowed to vote in local elections. A similar measure was put forward in the city in 2016 but failed narrowly, with 48% of the vote in favour versus 52% […]

On Friday, Abe officially announced his decision to resign for health reasons. He has already informed the leadership of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, of which he is the leader, and Natsuo Yamaguchi, the leader of the Komeito party, a part of the ruling coalition. “I want to pay my highest respect to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, a very great friend of mine. We’ve had a great relationship and […]
Authorities are investigating whether the grisly slaying of a professional poker player, whose charred remains were found in a remote Michigan park this month, is connected to her gambling. Susie Zhao, 33, was last seen around 5:30 p.m. on July 12 by her mother, the White Lake Township Police Department told The Daily Beast. The next day, her “badly burned” body was discovered at around 8:05 a.m. in a parking lot near the Pontiac Lake Recreation Area, about an hour outside of Detroit. “You have to determine whether or not this is a cover-up, or this may be some sort of […]

By Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images “Years of potential life lost” is the most sobering and sad Covid-19 statistic I’ve seen. More than 120,000 people in the United States have died of Covid-19. It’s an enormous number and, quite frankly, a failure of our national response, and of our leadership. But that number does not seem to be enough […]
