Blame Martin Luther for People Thinking the Bible’s Female Apostle Was Male

When we think of the ‘apostles’ we usually think of the main twelve followers of Jesus who accompanied him during his ministry in the Holy Land. You might also mention St. Paul, who became a follower of Jesus after a vision on the road to Damascus and is known as an ‘apostle’ or, more specifically, ‘the apostle to the Gentiles.’

What all of these people have in common is that they were men. The gender selectivity of Jesus’s chief followers is, to this day, the basis for all-male clergy in many Christian denominations. And yet the Bible does call one woman—Junia—not just an “apostle” but “highly esteemed among [them].”

If you’re thinking, “I don’t remember Jesus meeting a Junia,” then you’re correct; she is never mentioned in the Gospels. But the status of Paul in the history of Christianity shows that you didn’t actually have to know Jesus when he was alive to hold the rank of apostle in the early church. It’s an open secret that Paul calls Junia an apostle and yet she is rarely mentioned in histories of Christianity. A new article by Yii-Jan Lin, a professor at Yale Divinity School, published in the Journal of Biblical Literature, sets out to examine the ways in which people have tried to push Junia out of the spotlight by claiming either than she was male or that she wasn’t really an apostle.

Trump to blame – again! Atlanta mayor pins controversial shooting of Ahmaud Arbery on WH ‘rhetoric’ giving ‘permission to racists’

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has used the controversial shooting of Ahmaud Arbery to attack the “rhetoric” being used by US President Donald Trump and his administration.

“It’s 2020 and this was a ‘lynching’ of an African American man,” Bottoms told CNN on Sunday about the case of Arbery, a black jogger who was allegedly chased and killed by two white men in Georgia at the end of February.

Arbery’s case has gained national attention mainly due to the fact that murder charges were not filed until a cellphone video showing the 25-year-old man being confronted went viral in recent days. Gregory McMichael, 64, and his son, Travis McMichael, 34, have been charged with murder and aggravated assault. Both men claim they were acting in self-defense.

Bottoms says if the video had not received public attention, charges likely would not have been filed. It’s a sentiment that is growing among Georgia officials, as Attorney General Chris Carr promised on Saturday to examine how the case was handled “from the outset.”

But Bottoms took things further by attempting to tie Arbery’s death to the Trump administration and a “lack of leadership at the top.”

“It’s a part of the bigger issue that we are having in this country with the rhetoric we hear coming out of the White House in so many ways,” she says. “I think that many who are prone to being racist are given permission to do it in an overt way that we otherwise would not see in 2020.”

Blaming crimes against minorities on the president’s rhetoric and using them to criticize his leadership is nothing new from the left.

The Southern Poverty Law Center released a report last year linking an uptick in hate crimes to the president and his language.

Even mass shootings have been linked back to Trump by his critics, including the El Paso shooting in August that left 23 dead.

After reports leaked that the shooter had a manifesto with racist language about Hispanics, former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (Texas) and others did their best to tie the event to the president and his hardline stance on illegal immigration.

“He encourages [this] kind of open racism,” the former congressman told the press.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez went further in her criticism, saying the president was “directly responsible” for the shooting.

The Trump lot—Steve Bannon, Peter Navarro, Mike Pompeo—and their media cheerleaders are as fanatically anti-China as the Biden crew is anti-Russia. Just like George W. Bush’s WMD lies in the early-2000s, there is a developing timeline of Trumpian efforts to bend intelligence on COVID to the administration’s anti-China policy.

Target: China

In the 1980s, the US succeeded in pushing China’s elites to adopt neoliberal market “reforms,” many of which continue to the present. The World Bank hailed China as a “success” story in foreign direct investment, which it says contributed to China’s manufacturing and thus part of its 10 percent GDP growth between most of 1980 to 2010. It was not so successful for the hundreds of millions of Chinese who haven’t breathable air, drinkable water, or health insurance. But that’s another story. China became the “workshop of the world,” assembling parts for wealthier consumers in the US and Europe—until it outsourced that labor to poorer Asian countries. But this exploitation of Chinese labor had the consequence of increasing China’s GDP and its thus power on the world stage. This is known as the “globalization paradox.”

To make sure that China continues to benefit US corporations without getting too big for its boots, the US is relying on the doctrine of “Full Spectrum Dominance”: hypersonic drones, modified stealth bombers, cyberwar, the Space Force, etc., with which to threaten China.

In 2000, an organization to which future-US President George W. Bush belonged, the Project for the New American Century, said that after the US gained “a substantial force presence in the Gulf,” it would take on China: “Raising U.S. military strength in East Asia is the key to coping with the rise of China to great-power status. For this to proceed peacefully, U.S. armed forces must retain their military preeminence and thereby reassure our regional allies.”

But Bush was busy murdering Afghans, Iraqis, Pakistanis, Somalis, and Yemenis as part of the “war on terror.” So, Obama ran with the China ball, announcing a “pivot” to Asia in 2011. In an obvious threat to neighboring China, Japan was pressured to drop the peace clause of constitution, which the US had cynically imposed after nuking Japan in 1945. New US weapons systems were placed in South Korea and the X-37B space weapon (which the US military assured us was not a weapon) was launched, reportedly over the Strait of Taiwan. Then-US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said that by 2020, he hoped that 60 percent of US ships would be in the South China Sea. The failed Trans-Pacific Partnership deal was an effort to force China’s neighbors to trade and invest on US-dominated regional terms.

But, for the Trump cabal, none of this went far enough. The COVID-19 crisis has given the administration an opportunity to ramp up the anti-China narrative.

The Rogin Cables

A now-deleted statement by the Wuhan Institute of Virology confirms that in early-2018, US officials visited the facility. “The Institute has established close cooperation with a number of well-known U.S. organizations including the National Science Foundation, the EcoHealth Alliance, University of Texas Medical Branch, and the Galveston National Laboratory, and has achieved a series of academic exchanges.” No US concerns about the safety of the lab were made public at the time, including in the press release. But, as we shall see, now we are being told that concerns were raised in private and that the virus escaped from the lab.

In April 2020, MSM subtly started seeding their articles with propaganda. On April 6th, CNN’s Robert Kuznia and Drew Griffin quoted Rutgers University’s Dr. Richard Ebright: “The possibility that the virus entered humans through a laboratory accident cannot and should not be dismissed.”

On April 14th, the Washington Post’s Josh Rogin, a well-known “security” talking head on MSM, was given alleged US Embassy cables dating back to early-2018, purporting to highlight US concerns over safety at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV). One of the cables read: “During interactions with scientists at the WIV …, they noted the new lab has a serious shortage of appropriately trained technicians and investigators needed to safely operate this high-containment laboratory.” Rogin quotes an unnamed US official: “The cable was a warning shot … They were begging people to pay attention to what was going on.”

Citing his Washington Post colleague David Ignatius’s opinion, that the Chinese government’s official story of the virus emerging from a seafood market is “shaky,” Rogin again quotes the unnamed official: “The idea that [it] was just a totally natural occurrence is circumstantial. The evidence it leaked from the lab is circumstantial. Right now, the ledger on the side of it leaking from the lab is packed with bullet points and there’s almost nothing on the other side (sic).” Rogin writes: “There are similar concerns about the nearby Wuhan Center for Disease Control and Prevention lab, which operates at biosecurity level 2, a level significantly less secure than the level-4 standard claimed by the Wuhan Insititute of Virology lab.”

The Washington Post’s claims were echoed by other MSM. On April 16th, CNN Politics reported: “An intelligence official familiar with the government analysis said a theory US intelligence officials are investigating is that the virus originated in a laboratory in Wuhan, China, and was accidentally released to the public.”

Pressuring The Agencies

Lying—along with blackmail, drug-dealing, kidnap, torture, and murder—is the intelligence agencies’ profession. A small sample from the last 20 years alone: Bin Laden linked to 9/11, Iraq linked to Bin Laden, Iraqi WMD, Gaddafi ethnic cleansing in Benghazi, Navy SEALs killed Bin Laden, Syria sarin attack, Russiagate… Former CIA Director and now Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said: “We lied, we cheated, we stole (sic). It’s – it was like – we had entire training courses.”

These agencies need little pressuring in order to lie, yet the fanatically anti-China Trump administration is piling on demands to link the virus to the Wuhan labs.

On April 29th, NBC reported that, like the “war on terror”-era Bush administration in its zeal to link Iraq to 9/11, the Trump administration has been leaning on intelligence agencies. Organizations including the CIA, Defense Intelligence Agency, National Center for Medical Intelligence, and the National Security Agency were ordered by the White House “to comb through communications intercepts, human source reporting, satellite imagery and other data to establish whether China and the World Health Organization initially hid what they knew about the emerging coronavirus pandemic.”

The NYT also reported that Pompeo, “the administration’s most vocal hard-liner on China, has taken the lead in pushing American intelligence agencies for more information, according to current and former officials.”

Trump’s Timeline

The next day (April 30th) at 0916 EDT, the Intelligence Community (IC) issued an unusual press release: “The IC will continue to rigorously examine emerging information and intelligence to determine whether the outbreak began through contact with infected animals or if it was the result of an accident at a laboratory in Wuhan.” By 1141 EDT, media were reporting on the press release.

The timing is important because the anti-Trump MSM are giving the impression that Trump is contradicting the intelligence agencies, when in fact said agencies are sending out signals to their media propagandists to report the virus as potentially originating from a lab.

Later that day at 1625 EDT, Trump told reporters: “You’ve heard three or four different concepts as to how it came out. We should have the answer to that in the not-too-distant future, and that will determine a lot how I feel about China.” A reporter later asked: “have you seen anything at this point that gives you a high degree of confidence that the Wuhan Institute of Virology was the origin of this virus?” Trump replied: “Yes, I have. Yes, I have.”

Another reporter asked: “are you suggesting that maybe you have some evidence that this was not a naturally occurring virus?” Trump replied: “No, we’re going to see where it is. We’re going to see where it comes from. And you know — look, you know every theory, whether you had the theory from the lab, you had the theory from many different — the bats, and the type of bat, and the bat is 40 miles away, so it couldn’t have been here and it couldn’t have been there.” A reporter asked: “what gives you a high degree of confidence that this originated from the Wuhan Institute of Virology?” Trump replied: “I can’t tell you that. I’m not allowed to tell you that.”

Conclusion

Trump’s anti-China rhetoric and actions, including crossing out the prefix “Corona” and replacing it with “China,” are part of a continuation of US empire building that began long before Trump seized power in the Electoral College coup of 2016. The main difference is that where the MSM cheered on Obama’s dangerous and reckless provocations, the majority (with the notable exception of Fox News) are critical of Trump’s methods, though not the ultimate goal of making the Yellow Dragon choke at Uncle Sam’s feet.

NEO: The Blame Game but Where Does it Lead? – Veterans Today

By Henry Kamens for VT and New Eastern Outlook

The world has rarely, if ever, seen anything like this Covid-19 crisis. Consequently there are few signposts for how to deal with it. But we are still human beings, and on that basis alone, there are certain things we know.

Trump is dealing with it by trying to hold back money due to the WHO, which he is calling an instrument of lying and damage control for the Chinese. It is true that the head of the WHO is a very shady character tied in with drug companies and corrupt dealings. But when even mouthpieces of US policy are publishing articles with such titles as How WHO Became China’s Coronavirus Accomplice, you can see that these allegations are part of a game, not things designed to identify problems and solutions.

Allegations are being presented as facts, not to add to understanding but to shift the blame, as if that is all that matters during a deadly pandemic. Apparently, after initial denials and cover-ups, China has successfully contained the COVID-19 outbreak. But this is not before it has exported many cases to the rest of the world, so goes the latest script.

The buck stopped with Harry Truman

COVID-19 is giving us more insight into the corruption of organisations that we once trusted without question, and government agencies who are supposed to be looking out for our health and well-being. We are coming to question statistics that few have ever questioned before, such as numbers of deaths and why people have died, and how viruses in general spread.

For example, when we hear about the number of COVID-19 deaths we are not told how many of these people died from COVID-19 itself and how many simply had tested for COVID-19, but died of something else – or if it is even possible to draw such a line. Nor do we know if the figures are recorded the same way everywhere, even if they are truthful – what may be listed as a COVID-19 fatality in one place might be categorised differently elsewhere, based on both medical opinion and policy.

The way statistics are used at a time of pandemic reminds me of the Mark Twain quote, “Figures Don’t Lie but Liars Figure.” Such an expression fits much of the data we are being presented with by government and the business community alike. Another quote along these lines is the one about three kinds of lies – “lies, damned lies, and statistics

The data has never been fully reliable, and possibly could never be, unless there those collecting it be very active, widespread testing. The government in South Korea has taken that path. I would also like to think that this is the reason Armenia has had more reported cases than Georgia or Azerbaijan, although I admit that the Georgian authorities also don’t have strong reasons to be insincere in the numbers they are publishing.

In the US, however, the data methodology is clear – Don’t test, don’t tell. We don’t know how many people are actually infected with COVID-19 because there aren’t enough tests to determine this, and this was a deliberate policy from day one. So we come to question official documents, briefings, numbers infected and how many have actually died from COVID-19 and its complications, which seems to depend on what you can pin on the Chinese.

The main activities of those entrusted to address this pandemic are recrimination, denial and finger-pointing. Even the Chinese are blaming high officials. The “Blame Game” is the best way to describe what is going on now.

Every cloud has a trough and a pie

I don’t want to see who is gaining from this turmoil. But there may be long term benefits in finding out, as this could help explain away what happened to much of the artificial wealth created on paper since 2008, it has disappeared, and the historic highs in the stock markets.

I keep reading about how the post-corona world will be very different. On the other hand, too often in human history have things gone back to normal without many lessons being learned.

Maybe the virus was just something that got out of control. However, it looks to be manageable if the right steps are taken at the right time. It is taking time and plenty of effort to be managed, but even if priorities shift, were these problems created deliberately?

The real story here is not the official narrative but the folks with big households, people who cannot work from home, or all the physicians or emergency workers, plus grocery store staff, delivery workers, the postal service, etc., etc. They are the very people whose jobs and lives have been mucked about with by politicians pursuing ideology for the sake of it, Soviet-style, as if that somehow is the answer for everything.

In the meantime everybody is blaming everybody, even platforms such as Zoom, whose online conferencing and virtual classes have come under scrutiny for security breaches and suspected insider trading. It is true that its top management dumped stock before this scandal became mainstream news, but online platforms do not spread viruses that kill humans, or prevent them.

Where does it end?

Unfortunately, many people in politics rise to the top because they are incapable of seeing anything in any other terms. Everything has to be a political calculation or the product of one, as if the rising and setting of the sun are election gimmicks or plots by a certain voter base’s enemies.

The COVID-19 assistance Russia has provided Italy is being attacked based on its intentions, most likely because it came with no strings attached. If the Russians are doing it, there must be a bad political reason for it, as Russians can only try and help resolve the problem if they want to gain something at the end of it.

Naturally Russian health officials are also in Italy to find out about the specific strain which is affecting that country, as all strains do not kill with the same effectiveness. They have an interest in doing this because this is as close to a post-use bio weapons scenario that you can get without a mass kill off.

Where was NATO and EU unity when Italy needed it? As one Italian doctor shared, “Good old Donald, he talked on the phone with our useless Prime Minister Giuseppe and then sent him a check of 100 million dollars overnight.”

Looking at the numbers, we need to consider the average age in Italy and how they categorise patients as having COVID-19. As in the US and elsewhere, many deaths are being attributed to the virus when they are not a direct product of it.

Why is the death rate higher in Italy than other European countries? Either the virus has had some synergy with a catalyst, or it is the way they are playing with the numbers. The Italians still remember the Marshall Aid years after World War Two, they know how to play such games and win.

Is it not strange that when everyone is talking about viruses, and even the most ignorant people are suddenly masters of scenario planning, nobody covers professionally what the intelligence agencies are doing – and especially their contractors? They operate in a murky environment in virtually unknown countries, where BSL 3 labs have been established under various US-government funded programmes.

What’s sauce for the goose is saucier for the gander

The COVID-19 which has hit Italy and Iran, and now Spain and the UK, is not the same strain as the one seen in Georgia and elsewhere. Georgia has seen only three deaths so far, at least officially. Credit is being given to its healthcare system and professionals, calling it Georgia’s coronavirus miracle.

So successful has Georgia been in keeping the virus at bay, that governments around the world are now looking at how the small Caucasus country has managed to control the spread of Covid-19 so well.”

Those same governments have never previously taken an interest in the Georgian healthcare system; if they had, it would be well enough funded to be free at point of delivery, and drugs would be reasonably priced. They know that Georgian doctors are notoriously reluctant to talk openly about their work, (or medicine in general), for fear of contradicting official figures and facing consequences.

But now Georgia is being presented as a model, to save the reputations of countries which won’t admit they are lying about the nature and cause of the infections. The same countries which won’t admit that the Richard E. Lugar Centre in Tbilisi is a bioweapons lab, exporting diseases such as these to global flashpoints and testing them on an unwitting domestic population.

Words without songs

As you would expect in a war of recriminations, media groups are also involved. These are collaborating with each other to rubbish anything Russia is doing to help Italy. As one source wrote, “listen to me: you cannot find anything on the media about John Rendon and his activities because he owns the media! The only way you can get info about what they do in Tbilisi Georgia is by finding a whistleblower.”

Jacopo Iacoboni, the journalist who wrote the article which drove the Russians mad, is a really good writer and well-connected. Maurizio Molinari, editor of the newspaper la Stampa, is a former Foggy Bottom correspondent, close to neo-con people, who made a pact with the devil long ago and became the mouthpiece of right-wing Israeli environments.

Molinari is a member of the Democrat alliance in Israel, but no less guilty pursuing US agendas. Such articles as those by Natalia Antelva and Jacopo Iacobonia are templates, and “The Influence Operation Behind Russia’s Coronavirus Aid to Italy” claims that “The Kremlin is using Covid-19 to undermine NATO and the EU.”

Having read the joint articles of Natalia Antelava, the co-founder of Coda Media out of NY and Tbilisi, Iacoboni, and other carefully, I can conclude overall they are speculative and strongly skewed which is obviously intended. The same can be said about COVID data, there are many parameters (incl. statistics) influencing outcome in individual countries, so difficult to extract sensible info from differences alone.

Clearly there is a good-will aspect of Russia giving aid, even if some sources in the West claim that they also gather intelligence. Frankly, I have no clue but I assume that the Italian government has calculated the risk. The Russian military people who have arrived in Italy are indeed mostly from the Centre of Research on Bacteriological Protection of the Russian Ministry of Defence.

If you believe the Western view of facilities such as the Lugar Centre, there is no justification for this. If you believe the reports coming out of the countries these labs are located in, from people on the ground, it would be imperative to find out whether there is an intelligence aspect to the sudden emergence and spread of this virus – because if there is, the health issue be an effect rather than cause of the problems the outbreak has created.

Pardon us for living

Something far more sinister is going on than meets the eye. The well is too deep; we can only do so much to get to the bottom. It is like they want to reboot the global system, write off much toxic debt from the books and draw attention to how they want us to think we ended up here in the first place.

Much of the answer to how we really did end up here, and never should again, lies in the contracts given out to networks of patronage and evil lab researchers; modern-day Nazi doctors, the unscrupulous ones who have elaborate protection mechanisms behind them, as anyone who tries to complain about a doctor, anywhere, soon finds out.

Anyone is prone to become a Joseph Mengele with the proper environment and right money and stroking. A former safety officer for a lab tied to Battelle and Bechtel maintains this could all have been caused by an escape from a lab, as has happened before with some strains of flu that only existed in a lab. But the board of Battelle is most revealing.

It includes characters such as John K. Welch, formerly of General Dynamics and the US Naval Academy Foundation. It was he who ran Gaddafi’s chemical warfare programme, and when Gaddafi was attacked, he called Welch to bail him out, and Welch went to Cairo to ask Israel for help.

But now is not to time to dig too deeply, as the further this goes along the more self-evident will things become. We can only hope that, when everyone has finished blaming everyone else for this pandemic, the public will hold those who want to blame instead of serve responsible for it.

Sacked whistleblower carer Labour MP roasts Tories for deflecting UK govt blame on PPE shortages — RT UK News

A Labour MP who was sacked for speaking out about PPE shortages in a retirement home she was working in, has hit back at UK government ministers for casting doubt on her first-hand experiences, amid the ongoing Covid-19 crisis.

Nadia Whittome –Britain’s youngest MP– revealed on Wednesday evening that ExtraCare, which runs the retirement home she was volunteering in, Lark Hill, had “asked her not to return” due to a BBC Newsnight appearance in which she claimed staff there were in short supply of vital personal protective equipment (PPE).

‘When clowns purchase gowns’: UK govt skewered after ALL 400,000 items of PPE bought from Turkey fail inspection

The 23 year-old politician, who represents Nottingham East, took to Twitter on Thursday morning to accuse Tory ministers of attempting to shut her down and of implying that she and other “care staff are lying” to deflect blame from the UK government.

In a somewhat veiled attack on UK cabinet members such as health minister Nadine Dorries and Middle East and North Africa minister James Cleverly, Whittome posted a screenshot of a tweet by ExtraCare making an urgent request for PPE donations.

The MP has condemned the company’s behavior in its apparent attempts to silence her, insisting: “I will continue to speak the truth about my frontline experiences and I condemn care companies who try to gag staff for speaking out and raising concerns.”

It comes after Compassion in Care –which operates a helpline for care workers– says it is seeing the process of whistleblowing move at “unprecedented speed,” with reports of “horrendous,” unsafe conditions, amid concerns over the lack of PPE.

Last week, five of the calls the organisation received were from care workers who said they had lost their jobs after raising issues about PPE.

The UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported this week that deaths in care homes in England and Wales continue to rise while fatalities in hospitals fall.

The UK now has the worst death rate in Europe, with over 30,000 Covid-19 fatalities – surpassing the likes of Italy, Spain and France, with only the US having a higher death toll globally.
