Above Photo: Diana Tolkunova. A Landmark Report By The United Nations Concludes That ‘Global Collapse’ Is Becoming More Likely. But Was It Watered-Down Before Being Published? When the United Nations published its 2022 ‘Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction’ (GAR2022) in May, the world’s attention was on its grim verdict that the world was experiencing an accelerating trend of natural disasters and economic crises. But not a single media outlet picked up the biggest issue: the increasing probability of civilizational collapse. Buried in the report, which was endorsed by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, is the finding that escalating synergies between disasters, […]

Prosperous Transitions And Global Warnings. Glimpses Of Systemic, Post-Carbon Alternatives To The Country’s Economic And Political Crisis Are Emerging. A friend in Beirut asked me teasingly as we walked the darkened streets, “Are you happy now? You wanted degrowth and you’re getting it.” He was referencing the economic crisis and recession Lebanon is experiencing — although he knows very well the stark difference between this deep recession and degrowth. Recession happens when growth dependent economies stop growing, i.e., GDP goes into the […]

The event caused at least six deaths at the facility that suffered “catastrophic damage,” while the western Kentucky town of Mayfield was “ground zero” of the storm—a scene of “massive devastation,” one official said. (Photo: Tim Vizer/AFP via Getty Images) ‘Inexcusable’. The death of six people and the injury of one after an Amazon warehouse’s partial collapse is calling Amazon’s worker safety into question. In his latest installment of “Redacted Tonight,” Lee Camp looks into the collapse of the Crowdstrike narrative, which he says went the same way as the Steele Dossier and other laughable excuses for Hillary Clinton getting beaten by Donald Trump. Lee takes a victory lap this week as the final pillar of the Russiagate conspiracy theory crumbles. Also, he reports on a mysterious illness connected to lavender products, and the real people fighting for a better future at the UN’s COP 26 conference – the activists. Source link
Americans saw two men last night in the closing days of their respective pursuits of the highest office in the land, and their split-screen town halls clarified and catalyzed an understanding of this race in a way that their one debate so far did not. It was one more sign of a Trump campaign in total collapse; broke, broken, and unmoored. As Donald Trump was eviscerated by a smart and determined Savannah Guthrie, who put up with exactly zero bullshit from a subject who usually submerges interviewers under a tidal wave of bullshit, while Joe Biden connected with both his audience […]
Profits for the second-largest carrier in the US have plummeted amid the ongoing pandemic due to a steep decrease in passenger demand, it was stated during the firm’s third quarter reports. United Airlines has reported adjusted losses per share of $8.16 compared to $4.07 last year, much lower than estimated of $7.53, Smarter Analyst reported on Thursday. According to the Chicago-based carrier, the airline’s average daily cash burn was $25m in Q3, down from $40m in the second quarter, due to a 59 percent reduction in operating costs. But revenues fell 78.1 percent year-on-year to $2.49bn, falling short of estimates of […]
…from SouthFront.org The Armenian-Azerbaijani war in the Nagorno-Karabakh region does not show signs of nearing its end despite the humanitarian ceasefire launched in the region. The ceasefire started in the Nagorno-Karabakh region at 12:00 local time on October 10. The ceasefire deal was reached by the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides following long talks in Moscow a day ago. Russia played a key role in forcing the sides to make steps towards the de-escalation. Azerbaijan and Armenia also formally agreed to begin substantive negotiations of a peaceful settlement of a military conflict over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh that erupted on September […]
Israel’s hospital system is overwhelmed and on a fast track to collapse, according to the nation’s top experts responsible for COVID-19 patients. At an extraordinary press conference, Dr. Avishai Elis, the secretary of the Israel’s Internal Medicine Association, warned the public of an imminent disaster and the “tragic implications” of the paralysis which has taken hold of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government regarding the nation’s hospitals. Two weeks ago, Israel became the first country in the world to impose a second nationwide lockdown, but there is no comprehensive policy in place to fight the novel coronavirus. In a direct swipe at […]
Tennis star Yulia Putintseva took out her French Open frustrations on her racket on Wednesday after she crashed out at Roland Garros after suffering a third-set collapse in her match with unseeded Argentine Nadia Podoroska. No. 23 seed Putintseva was defeated by two sets to one (6-3, 1-6, 6-2) early on Wednesday by the unheralded Podoroska, eliminating her from the tournament in which she has twice been a quarter-finalist, and it was clear that she was unhappy with her performance. At one particularly contentious moment in the match, Putintseva could no longer restrain her emotions as she furiously slammed her racket six times into […]

Tensions along Israel’s southern border with Hamas-controlled Gaza were ratcheted up earlier this month, after Washington announced that Israel and the UAE had agreed to normalize relations. Hamas called Abu Dhabi’s decision a “cowardly” attack on the Palestinians’ “national, historical and religious rights.” Hamas reserves the right to “remove the siege” against Gaza in any way necessary should blockade negotiations fail, including by raining rockets down on Israel, Mushir al-Masri, a spokesman for the political and militant group, has said. “If the negotiation efforts fail, it will mean that the Zionist enemy will experience a siege in the heart of the […]

While the media blames the crisis in Lebanon solely on corruption, the US government unleashed a “maximum pressure” campaign to push regime change and crush Lebanese resistance with sanctions and aggressive hybrid warfare. As the people of Lebanon suffer through one of the worst economic crises in their nation’s conflict-ridden history, the Donald Trump administration is exploiting the disaster to force regime change and weaken Lebanese […]
The French economy contracted by a record 13.8 percent in the second quarter, data from the national statistics agency INSEE has revealed, highlighting the cost of coronavirus lockdowns. The historic decline marked a third consecutive quarter of negative growth in a worsening recession. France’s economy started shrinking in the last quarter of 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic hit Europe with full force. It continued to retreat in the first three months of this year, when the rapid spread of the virus was starting to trigger lockdowns, contracting by 5.9 percent, according to the updated figures. “GDP’s negative developments in first half […]
A section of the US-Mexico border wall in South Texas has reportedly failed to withstand the power of nature, collapsing under the strong winds of Hurricane Hanna, and sending President Trump’s critics into overdrive. “For the fury of nature, there are no borders,” wrote Yadith Valdez, who was among the first to share a viral video that apparently shows a part of the border fence between the United States and Mexico going down. The US President’s many critics rejoiced, seeing it as divine intervention and an omen of an imminent collapse of the Trump administration. If this isn’t 2020 in a nutshell…. […]
The US dollar’s status as the dominant global currency is at risk of being eroded because of mounting government debt, according to Zhu Min, former senior executive with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). His warning comes as the United States is expected to double down on its fiscal stimulus measures to soothe the economic fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic. Congress is considering a new round of relief that is likely to cost at least $1 trillion on top of the more than $2 trillion passed earlier this year. With the US Federal Reserve continuing its aggressive monetary policy of quantitative easing, […]
As the world grapples with Covid-19, precious metals’ prices are pushing higher. Massive moves in gold and silver are coming, according to veteran stockbroker Peter Schiff. He says silver may hit $50 per ounce. The rally will be short-lived, however, with Schiff describing the metal as “the new bitcoin.” The rise in gold and silver price is “about to explode” and this is just the beginning of a much bigger move, according to Schiff. “We’re barely getting started,” the CEO of Euro Pacific said in his podcast. He explained that is also coinciding with what’s happening to the US dollar, because […]

Unemployment, evictions, business failure, a pandemic and health crises are all here at once. The federal government doesn’t care. Consider the astounding confluence of social and economic crises that are all barreling towards the American people at this moment. In the midst of an enormous, unavoidable increase in national unemployment, the $600 per week unemployment benefit increase that has sustained millions is set to run […]
Scientists have issued new warnings over the Thwaites Glacier in the Amundsen Sea in West Antarctica, saying its collapse could result in substantial sea-level rises. In interviews with the Financial Times, several scientists noted that the collapse of the ice mass – which has been referred to as the “doomsday glacier” – could increase sea levels by around 65 centimeters by itself. However, its fall could lead to a runaway collapse of other ice in West Antarctica, causing sea levels to increase by up to 6 feet. The Thwaites Glacier’s melting is already responsible for about 4% of global sea-level rises, […]
…from SouthFront Saudi Arabia has become a hostage of its own military campaign in Yemen. The Kingdom suffers from both its own inability to achieve a military victory in the conflict and regular losses from the retaliatory actions of the Houthis. At the same time, the Saudi leadership has no opportunity to withdraw from the conflict and abandon its proxies there because this will undermine its already shaky position in the region and cause a wide-scale political crisis inside Saudi Arabia itself. The impact from such a crisis will be especially devastating. Over the past years, the Kingdom has been passing […]
Predictions about the end of the European project have long been bandied about in the corridors of power and in newspaper columns. However, one Finnish MEP has joined the long list of those making the claim that the end may be on the horizon. The European Union is on track to “inevitably” collapse due to increasing concerns over the bloc’s plan to further centralise power in Brussels, a Finnish MEP has told The Express. Laura Huhtasaari, an MEP for the Finns Party and a well-known Eurosceptic in her country, has said that the EU’s continued attempts to bring member states under […]

…by Jonas E. Alexis The collapse of the black family we alluded to in an earlier article is inextricably linked to the rise of the Civil Rights Movement. In his sociological study “The Origins of African-American Family Structure,” sociologist and historian Steven Ruggles of the University of Minnesota documents that from 1880 until 1960, married households with two-parent homes were the general rule of the black family structures.[1] Others have argued that in 1880, black families were nuclear families in places like Philadelphia. “Two parent households were generally more common among ex-slaves. Taken together, two-parent households were found 80 percent of […]
The outcome of Russia’s ‘national vote’ on a series of amendments to the constitution serves to reaffirm that most Russians want the country to plow its own furrow, regardless of what outsiders think. In the end, the margin was huge. Exit polls suggested around 70 percent of voters said ‘yes’ to 206 amendments to their constitution, and close to 30 percent rejected the changes. Official results put the ‘yes’ vote to above 78 percent, with 99 percent of ballots counted. Even Moscow liberal political organizers conceded that their own exit polls showed the capital had supported Vladimir Putin’s proposals. What’s more, […]
China activated a Level-IV emergency response on Saturday after strong winds whipped across the eastern coast as Typhoon Nuri made landfall, hitting Guangdong Province and major cities including Hong Kong. Footage has emerged of a gigantic crane weighing an estimated 10 tonnes, and being toppled over by high winds on Friday before crashing into the sea in eastern China. The terrifying scene shows the heavy machine off the coastal city of Taizhou, Zhejiang province, pushed along its rails by the strong weather before its brake clamps are torn through. The crane operator reportedly survived after escaping from the structure by jumping into the water. As […]

Project cancellations, spending cuts, well shut-ins: the problems and dilemmas plaguing onshore oil producers have also spread to offshore. And while the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on onshore drilling may already be wearing off here and there where drilling is cheap, they may linger for longer offshore. Despite major progress made by oil companies in the cost department, offshore drilling often remains more expensive than onshore drilling, not least because the process of extraction is more complex. These are costs that one can’t cut or forgo. What this means in the current environment, is that offshore oil may suffer more […]
A Second wave of Covid-19 cases is a major risk for the energy market, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has warned. The agency raised its outlook for oil demand, which will still see a record drop this year. In its key monthly report published on Thursday, the Paris-based energy watchdog said it expects global oil demand to fall by 8.6 million barrels per day (bpd). That’s around 700,000 bpd more than the IEA said in its previous report. “Major uncertainties remain. The biggest is whether governments can ease the lockdown measures without sparking a resurgence of Covid-19 outbreaks,” the report said. […]

This past Friday, May 8, the US Labor Dept. released its latest jobless figures. The official report was 20 million more unemployed and an unemployment rate of 14.7%. Both mainstream and progressive media reported the numbers: 20 million more jobless and 14.7%. But those numbers, as horrendous as they are, represent a gross under-estimation of the jobless situation in America! One might understand why the mainstream media consistently under-reports the […]
