Labor unions have been fighting to secure the right to unionize and collectively bargain for more than 250,000 public sector workers at cities, schools, colleges and counties in Colorado. Today, 24 US states, including Colorado, prohibit or limit collective bargaining rights for public sector workers, resulting in […]

A federal judge has rejected a request to repeal statewide restrictions on religious gatherings in Colorado, insisting the coronavirus still poses too great a risk to residents. The move was scorched by civil liberties advocates. US District Judge Christine Arguello ruled this week that allowing such gatherings would “present a high risk of harm to the state of Colorado as well as the public in general,” declining to overturn a 175-person limit on religious events imposed by Governor Jared Polis. “Numerous courts have considered, and persuasively rejected, nearly identical arguments,” Arguello wrote in her decision, referring to the case brought by […]
Incidents of customers in the US refusing to wear masks or obey social distancing regulations while in public during the ongoing coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic are nothing new, with some polite and simple reminders quickly escalating to an altercation resulting in violence against those doing the reminding. A Colorado bartender was violently shoved by an adult customer after the latter was required to comply with the facility’s COVID-19 regulations to wear a protective face mask within the establishment. Surveillance video shared by Stephen Gould, the owner of the Golden Moon Speakeasy bar, showed the attacker, identified as 62-year-old John Roche, cursing after […]

The wildfires that exploded over the past few days in California and Colorado show clear influences of global warming, climate scientists say, and evidence of how a warming and drying climate is increasing the size and severity of fires from the California coast to the high Rocky Mountains. They may also be the […]
Dozens of anti-police protesters have been swarming around downtown Denver, Colorado, setting fires and smashing windows, with authorities seemingly struggling to contain the hit-and-run violence. Police officers in riot gear were seen guarding the Denver Police Department on Saturday night, but elsewhere across downtown Denver, local reporters described “ugly scenes” of arson and vandalism. Police conducted eight arrests as smaller groups of rioters have been running rampant, apparently using guerilla tactics and largely avoiding direct clashes, but throwing fireworks and other projectiles at the officers. Police put out another fire set in the middle of the road. The backdrop is the Denver […]

Two were handcuffed. In the video, the Black girls, who are aged between six and 17 years old, can be heard screaming for their mom. “I want my mother,” one of the girls can be […]

An unlucky squirrel from Colorado has tested positive for bubonic plague, local health officials have said. With US Covid-19 cases soaring past the 3.3 million mark, news on the classic disease’s comeback have caused quite a stir. The discovery of the infected rodent was announced by the Jefferson County Public Health (JCPH) body. The squirrel is the first case of plague in the county this year, the authority noted. “Plague is an infectious disease caused by the bacteria Yersinia pestis, and can be contracted by humans and household animals if proper precautions are not taken,” the JCPH warned. The dreaded disease, which […]
The bubonic plague is caused by the bacteria Yersinia pestis, and can infect humans and household animals. While the disease is efficiently treated nowadays, in the Middle Ages the infection caused a pandemic known as the Black Death that killed millions of people in Eurasia and Africa. A squirrel has tested positive for bubonic plague in Morrison, Colorado, some 17 miles southwest of Denver, according to the local authorities. In a press release, the health officials wrote that this was the first case of the infectious disease being reported in Jefferson County. However, they assure the chances of plague transmission to humans is “extremely […]

Lauren Boebert, a mother of four with outspoken views on guns and fringe internet theories, has uprooted Colorado Rep. Scott Tipton. Her primary victory is part of a larger political insurgency taking shape across the country. An unapologetic political outsider, Boebert was declared the winner of Colorado’s 3rd congressional district Republican primary on Wednesday. Tipton, the incumbent, had served five terms in Congress and was endorsed by Donald Trump. Apparently unbothered by her victory, the president took to Twitter to congratulate Boebert on her “really great win.” Boebert’s colorful political ads and staunchly conservative platform made her a popular target of […]

Elijah McClain was walking home from the convenience store on an unusually cool Saturday night in August when three Aurora police officers approached him. According to the official police report, a resident called 911 because the 23-year-old massage therapist was wearing a ski mask and “acting weird” by “waving his arms around,” prompting the officers to approach him and attempt to pat him down. But McClain, who had made the quick grocery run to pick up bottled tea for his cousin and wore an open-faced ski mask because he had anemia which often made him cold, was unarmed and simply listening […]

President Donald Trump may have shown diminishing concern for the threat posed to the American public by the novel coronavirus in recent weeks, but his administration and allies are increasingly pointing to the pandemic as a justification for further longstanding policy goals on immigration. For months, the Trump administration has utilized the pandemic as a pretext for raising the barriers for entry into the country, effectively halting most immigration into the United States for the duration of the crisis, refusing to issue COVID-19 guidances for those still stuck in the immigration legal system, and using a quarantine law from the late […]

Search crews of more than 100 investigators, eight tracking dogs and four drones, as well as members of Colorado Parks and Wildlife, South Ark Swiftwater Rescue and Reach Air Ambulance have been unable to find her. The investigation is still open, and authorities have yet to rule out […]
