Shortly after Mayor Lori Lightfoot conceded to allow the federal government to deploy their agents to Chicago, the city has removed the bronze Columbus statue which has been vandalized amid massive Black Lives Matter rallies. The removal operation started at Chicago’s Grant Park in the middle of the night on Friday. New York Times opinion editor James Bennet on Sunday announced that he has resigned, effectively immediately, following an internal revolt over Republican Sen. Tom Cotton’s “Send in the Troops” column published last week. The newspaper announced that Katie Kingsbury, will step in as an interim opinion page editor through the election; and that Bennet’s deputy editor Jim Dao is being reassigned back to the newsroom. While reporting from outside the White House, where clashes with Secret Service occurred overnight, Fox News’ Leland Vittert was shouted down by a handful of protesters who eventually overwhelmed the live coverage. Video of the coverage shows Vittert trying to tell Fox News hosts what was happening at the time in the vicinity of the White House, but his words became inaudible due to the group of loud protesters.
