With just a few more weeks to go until Election Day, Jordan Klepper is still putting his life on the line to make fun of Trump supporters at the president’s increasingly irresponsible rallies. After checking out one of Trump’s infamous boat parades over the summer, the Daily Show correspondent strapped on his mask and headed to Pennsylvania where he trolled the parking lot outside Harrisburg International Airport for the most embarrassing people he could find. “On the day Donald Trump most likely contracted COVID at an event in the Rose Garden, he hosted another, slightly different kind of superspreader event,” Klepper […]

Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who is currently awaiting coronavirus test results, coughed through a Fox News interview on Monday night in which he attacked Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden for consistently wearing a mask, claiming it was a “political statement” meant to “scare” people. Moments after President Donald Trump returned to the White House despite still battling COVID-19—a homecoming that included a photo-op moment featuring the gasping president removing his face mask—Giuliani appeared on Fox News’ The Story With Martha MacCallum to discuss Trump’s COVID-19 diagnosis and how the virus is raging through Trumpworld. After the former New York City mayor […]
At San Antonio’s Cornerstone Church on Sunday morning, hundreds of maskless congregants sang and prayed, swaying together in the pews, babies and grandparents in close proximity. It might have been easy to forget there was a deadly pandemic blazing through the country. That is, until about 25 minutes into the sermon, when pastor Matt Hagee, on a stage bathed in blue light, announced that his father, the 80-year-old senior pastor and the church’s founder, John Hagee, had been diagnosed two days earlier with COVID-19. Hagee said during the Oct. 4 livestreamed service that his father “has been diligent throughout this entire […]
Few voices in the metal community are more recognizable—or ferocious—than the one wielded by Corey Taylor, who as frontman for horror-metal juggernaut Slipknot has rightly earned the nickname The Great Big Mouth, and whose work with Stone Sour has allowed him to naturally expand into the hard-rock mainstream. Taylor’s output covers a vast stylistic and emotional range, from rage and misery to heartbreak and longing, and thus it’s fitting that he’d continue pushing his creative boundaries by going it alone—and by venturing into sonic realms he’s yet to fully explore with either of his bestselling bands. That’s not to say that […]
At this point, I have so many masks, I don’t know where to put them. I’m considering repurposing a tie rack and making it a mask rack, since who knows when I’ll wear a tie again? But even still, mask technology is improving on what seems like a daily basis and so I’m searching for the best face masks money can buy. Zappos, known for expansive offering of shoes and clothing from top brands, is a great place to shop if you’re looking to stock up on some face coverings. To help you sift through all they have to offer, we’ve […]
My search for the perfect mask has been done in phases. The first was realizing that I, in fact, needed a mask, and whatever was in arms reach would do. Then came exploration: the discovery of nose wires, masks that tie around your head, filter pockets, washable fabric. Finally, and last but not least, came treating my mask like a fashion item and wondering before going out if it matches my outfit. I didn’t know I had such rigid criteria and high expectations for a face mask, but here we are, in 2020, where anything is possible. And I’m glad to […]
Even though we’ve honed in on which face masks are best, that doesn’t mean they’re all perfect. In fact, far from it. Recently, I came across a new issue, one that’s extremely frustrating and difficult to handle: my glasses fogging up. Honestly, I thought I’d have to just stop wearing glasses with my mask altogether. And then I came across this anti-fog spray. This Antifog Spray looks like it was made specifically for snorkeling or swimming goggles, but it works the same way with your glasses. It’s easy to use— just spritz some onto your glasses, and that’s it. This formula […]
As a frequent product and apparel reviewer, I test out a fair amount of gear in any given year. During the steaming catastrophe that is the year 2020, much of that gear has been non-medical face masks. I’ve now tried out close to a dozen different reusable cloth face masks, and in my non-medical opinion, most of them suck. From ear loops so snug they seem designed for a marmoset, to cloth that bunches up and slips off the nose, to masks with gaps so large at their sides a murder hornet could pass through, not to mention virus-laden aerosol droplets […]
Face masks are the new norm. They are an accessory you can’t leave your house without, just like your wallet, keys, and in the summer, sunglasses. And while we’ve rounded up and recommended plenty of our favorite ones, I recently came across a way to improve my overall face mask wearing experience. One of the biggest issues I run into is I keep losing my face masks. Or, I take it off and have to put it in my pocket when I’m not wearing it. Another complaint is that the elastic hurts people’s ears, giving them migraines if they wear it […]
The more and more I wear a face mask, the more it becomes a part of how I think. Not only am I searching for one that’s comfortable, and one that’s well made, I’m also on the hunt for something that’s stylish. The face mask needs to work well, but also needs to go with whatever I’m wearing. Thankfully, one of our favorite brands makes a face mask that is more than just functional, it’s stylish, too. Everlane’s 100% Human Face Mask is one of my favorites. 10% of all profits go to the ACLU, and as of this writing, Everlane […]
After months in isolation, British and European royal families have bravely emerged from their guarded estates to lift the spirits of their beleaguered countrymen one photo op at a time. In England, Kate Middleton has dyed her hair again; her honey-rooted strands and measured princess waves signal that she’s back to business. Queen Letizia of Spain, too, has embarked on a tour with her family, meant to “boost morale” and perhaps distract from continuing news reports about her husband’s father’s allegedly shady finances. Letizia’s husband, King Felipe VI, has already renounced his inheritance in the wake of the mushrooming scandal, with […]
Kellyanne Conway went on Fox News Wednesday morning to heap praise on her boss for what news anchors have been calling his “new tone” in the previous day’s coronavirus task force briefing—his first in several months. She was met with some unexpectedly tough pushback from host Martha MacCallum. “I think it was incredibly important for the president of the United States to provide information to the public, not confrontation with some press people there who were asking questions that had nothing to do with the development of vaccines and therapeutics,” Conway said, perhaps alluding to the question about alleged sex trafficker […]
On a day where President Donald Trump tried to stick to his script in a return to coronavirus briefings, he still managed to mangle his messaging by lying about his mask use and wishing an accused sex trafficker well. Appearing solo without the burden of fact purveyors like doctors and experts, Trump initially read stiltedly from a paper in front of him, telling assembled reporters about the importance of masks and social distances following months of ignoring or deriding both practices. “I have the mask right here, I carry it. And I will use it gladly, no problem with it,” Trump […]
Even in a time of record unemployment, some of Dan’s colleagues at an Indiana Walmart have walked off the job. They aren’t quitting over fears of catching COVID-19, he explained. They’re quitting because of customers who become abusive when asked to wear face masks. “A lot of our people have been verbally harassed to the point of breaking down and just quitting,” Dan, who like other workers interviewed in this story used a pseudonym to avoid retaliation from his employer, told The Daily Beast. If anything, jobs like Dan’s are about to get even more complicated. On Monday, Walmart will begin […]
Elise Partin was waiting to see if her governor would take action. The mayor of Cayce, South Carolina, a city of roughly 14,000 people, had heard calls for a local mask order from people in her community and she believed that a statewide edict from Gov. Henry McMaster would prove to be easier to follow and understand for state residents during the coronavirus pandemic. When that didn’t happen, city leaders decided on their own mandate that took effect last week that “masks be worn in indoor places open to the general public,” according to a statement on Cayce’s website. The hesitation […]
Of all the reasons Donald Trump has refused to wear a mask in public in the four-plus months since the COVID-19 pandemic began in the U.S., high on the list must be fear of ridicule. That would explain why the few times he has supposedly worn a mask off-camera, he’s bragged about how good he looks and compared himself to the Lone Ranger. On Monday night, his worst nightmare came true. After making his first-ever public appearance in a mask at Walter Reed Hospital over the weekend, Trump was mercilessly mocked Monday night by Late Night host Seth Meyers. “Yesterday, according […]
Face masks are important. But it’s also important to know there is an alternative. While some prefer to opt for face masks with ties, the balaclava or neck gaiter is another option for a comfortable face covering. Neck gaiters are great for wearing around your neck on socially distanced walks, hikes, bike rides, and more, and are easy to pull up over your nose and mouth when you need them. Because brands have been making them for years, they come in so many different styles already, from sweat wicking ones, to UV protecting ones, and plenty of designs. If you’re thinking […]
When Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced she would sign a mask-wearing mandate Wednesday, she wasn’t just protecting her citizens—she was adding fire to a growing revolt over Gov. Brian Kemp’s refusal to require face coverings in Georgia. “Atlanta is going to do it today because the fact of the matter is that COVID-19 is wreaking havoc on our city, specifically black and brown communities with higher death rates,” said the mayor, who recently tested positive for the coronavirus, making hers the third and largest city to defy Kemp’s orders. While Kemp has encouraged Georgians to mask up in public spaces—and […]
Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo believes she knows what her county needs to fight back against COVID-19. But because of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, she says she isn’t able to follow through. “I’m at the mercy of what powers he positively gives us,” Hidalgo told The Daily Beast. “As opposed to being able to use my own tools.” As Texas faces a resurgent coronavirus and some officials have emphasized concerns about hospitals in the state becoming potentially overrun or overwhelmed, Hidalgo can find plenty of reasons to worry. Hospitalizations started to increase in late May, she says, and haven’t come down […]
To me, wearing a mask is like wearing a helmet while riding a bike. It’s something you should always do (don’t let anyone tell you otherwise), but you can undeniably feel a little dorky doing it, especially if your helmet isn’t doing you any favors. A stylish face mask isn’t something I thought I’d come across, even though I’ve been searching for a mask for pretty much every occasion. Whether that’s running, hanging out, or taking trips to the grocery store, pretty much anything I do these days requires a specified mask. And while I have some favorites, I wouldn’t signify […]
Federal immigration authorities are refusing to release an HIV-positive man who has been held in a Minnesota detention facility since January, despite the fact that the man has already won his case for release before an immigration judge—and despite his severe risk of medical complications from the coronavirus outbreaks that have spread inside detention facilities across the country. “I’m dying, slowly, even with my medication,” said William Zacarias Marroquìn, a 32-year-old restaurant worker, calling from inside the Sherburne County Jail in Elk River, Minnesota. “I don’t know if they care or not, but I can be spending my time with my […]
Finding the right face mask can be trickier than it seems. There are face masks with nose clips, washable face masks, packs of bulk face masks, more breathable face masks, well, you get the idea. But the most important part of a face mask is that it blocks more particles from entering your mask. This is where a filter comes in. Think of a filter as another layer of fabric, blocking particles from entering your lungs. Unlike more and more layers though, a filter makes it easier to breathe, and will prevent overheating. You can use a lot of things for […]
With state after state mandating that we all wear face coverings in public, it’s never been more important than now to find one you like. The CDC continues to recommend face coverings and social distancing to fight the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, which means you should have a few face masks at your disposal. We’ve done a lot of research over the last couple of weeks to find the best ones for anyone looking to upgrade their face masks. Now, all that research is in one place. You can find masks here for all kinds of occasions and some of our favorites […]
For weeks, President Donald Trump and his campaign have attacked former Vice President Joe Biden for “hiding in a basement” as new coronavirus cases have skyrocketed across the country. In public remarks on Tuesday, Biden responded to those attacks by challenging Trump to focus on the deadly pandemic that has killed at least 125,000 Americans under his watch—and laid out his own plan to address the crisis. “It’s almost July, and it seems like our ‘wartime president’ has surrendered,” Biden told reporters inside a gym at the Alexis L. DuPont High School in Wilmington, Delaware, calling his proposed roadmap to safely […]
One of the most common issues I’ve seen with wearing masks is the pain the elastics can cause on your ears. After wearing a mask for a whole day at the beach, I get it. When I was younger, I couldn’t wear headbands (it was the 90s, people) because I would get bad headaches and now some masks are giving me that same feeling. Sore ears suck! But it doesn’t have to be the case. I found a mask that fits securely without using elastic. It’s pain-free and comfortable to wear, no matter how long. What’s unique about the Baggu mask […]
Chances are, you’re going to need a few face masks. I’ve already lost several, for example. Maybe you want to mix and match with your outfit. Or maybe you need a few to rotate through in case they get dirty. Whatever the case may be, face masks are like T-shirts, it’s a good idea to have several you love. Thankfully, plenty of brands are selling masks in packs so you can always have a few on deck. Here are some of our favorites. Everlane Face Masks: Everlane makes masks that come in a pack of three. Each one is a different […]
Something I’ve noticed about masks is that having them fit snugly on your face can be a little tricky. Your nose can just push the mask up, leaving the mask ill-fitting and you’ll find yourself breathing out of the sides of the mask, which is pretty annoying. Thankfully, some genius out there invented the nose wire, which wraps around your nose to both give the mask added security on your face and to help it fit more snugly. If you’re looking for a mask with a nosewire, we have some of our favorite picks to make your search a little easier. […]
For me, having a machine washable face mask is a top priority. Really, a face mask is like any other piece of clothing, and so, you need to be able to wash it easily, especially since it’s summer and you’re likely to get it all sweaty. Some masks are hand washable, but ideally, you want one that you can just throw in the washing machine with everything else. To help you pick out a great, easily washable mask, we’ve rounded up some of our favorites. Outdoor Voices Face Mask: Outdoor Voices’ face masks are made of an 86% Polyester and 14% […]
When people said they were dying to see movies in cinemas again, the CEO of AMC Theatres may have taken the words too literally. Adam Aron, CEO and president of the country’s largest theater chain, is the target of pointed outrage after announcing that the company’s plan to reopen 450 of the more than 600 locations that were forced to close due to the coronavirus pandemic does not include a rule requiring patrons to wear masks. In states where wearing a mask is required, the company will adhere to that mandate, and all employees will be required to wear them. Patrons […]
