A concert that was canceled for its potential to massively spread COVID-19 in the hot zone of South Dakota has been brought back from the dead with a new featured artist—one who’s already been slammed for playing to packed pandemic crowds. Country singer Chase Rice will perform at Saturday’s event, after the original headliner, Chris Young, dropped out following a Daily Beast report on the potential danger of such a big indoor gathering. At the time, The Daily Beast reported that Sanford Health, a nonprofit hospital system, was sponsoring the event in conjunction with Gov. Kristi Noem, who also took heat […]
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer accused President Donald Trump on Sunday of “inciting” domestic terrorism by repeatedly attacking her at his rallies, calling the “Lock her up!” chants the president has encouraged even in the wake of a kidnapping plot against her “disturbing.” During a rally in Michigan on Saturday, the president appeared to dismiss what cops and the FBI have called a violent, militia-infused scheme to kidnap and possibly even kill the governor, saying, “I guess they said she was threatened.” With Trump taking aim at her over the state’s coronavirus restrictions, the crowd chanted “lock her up,” prompting the president […]

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem capitalized on news that police officers are leaving Seattle at record rates amid budget calls and ongoing protests by offering them work in her state. In her message to Seattle police officers, the Republican governor promised South Dakota would not “demonize” them. “In South Dakota we stand WITH you,” she tweeted on Saturday. The governor even added a link to a website listing law enforcement job openings. Noem’s tweet follows Friday news that Seattle police officers are leaving their department at an “unprecedented” rate. The department currently has around 1200 officers employed, the lowest number in […]

President Donald Trump continued his attacks on Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Thursday, calling the Democratic lawmaker a “dictator” as authorities announced charges against a 14th suspect in the thwarted plot to kidnap her and violently overthrow the government. “Michigan, she has to open up. [Whitmer] wants to be a dictator in Michigan and the people can’t stand her,” Trump said Thursday in a FOX Business interview. Blasting Whitmer’s COVID-19 policies, he insisted people “want to get back to work.” The president has repeatedly attacked Whitmer even after authorities announced last week charges against more than a dozen individuals who allegedly […]

Earlier in the week, the Michigan attorney general, Dana Nessel, announced that several militia group members had been taken into custody on charges of domestic terrorism for what is described as a plot to kidnap the state’s governor, Gretchen Whitmer. A sheriff in Barry County, Michigan, named Dar Leaf, who took part in anti-lockdown protests with the militants who were taken into custody for allegedly participating in a plot to kidnap Governor Gretchen Whitmer, suggested during an interview earlier in the week that the men were only attempting to “arrest”, not “kidnap” the governor. MUNITH, MI—Seven Michigan men were arrested Thursday as part of a sprawling right-wing plot allegedly targeting the state’s government and its embattled Governor Gretchen Whitmer in particular. The charges against the men, who allegedly called themselves the “Wolverine Watchmen,” came in tandem with federal charges against six other men in an alleged plot to kidnap Whitmer. The group’s involvement—or lack thereof—with those facing federal charges was murky at the time of the announcements. But social media posts and testimony from neighbors of the “Wolverine Watchmen” suggest they had a disturbing relationship with the far-right paramilitary movement. According to state prosecutors, the […]

Gretchen Whitmer—a target of a recent kidnapping plan by extremist militia members—shortly after her Thursday afternoon press conference discussing the foiled plot, claiming she has “hatred in her heart” towards President Donald Trump. Federal prosecutors on Thursday announced the arrest of six men who allegedly plotted to violently overthrow the government and kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. The half a dozen men were arrested Wednesday night after the FBI and Michigan State Police reportedly spent hours raiding a Hartland home. The arrest came after investigators uncovered an alleged plot that involved reaching out to members of a Michigan militia, according to a federal affidavit filed Thursday. “Several members talked about murdering ‘tyrants’ or ‘taking’ a sitting governor,” an FBI agent wrote in the affidavit, as first reported by The Detroit News. “The group decided […]
Gov. Ron DeSantis is doing nothing to prevent the Miami Dolphins from filling their 65,000-person stadium despite Florida’s continued struggle to contain the coronavirus, which has already killed over 15,000 people in the Sunshine State alone. In a stunning decision last month, the Republican governor moved Florida into Phase 3 of the state’s reopening plan, dropping all restrictions on businesses and allowing stadiums to operate at full capacity. That means the NFL team can admit 65,000 fans into Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, regardless of recommendations on social distancing and large group gatherings established by the Centers for Disease Control […]

California’s Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom has approved the creation of a task force to examine paying reparations to the descendants of slaves, the first such proposal ever passed by a state government. Newsom signed AB 3121 into law on Wednesday, creating a nine-member task force to study possible reparations for black Americans. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has called for a harsh crackdown on violent and “disorderly” protests, proposing a bill that would bring steep penalties for rioting. Critics insist the law is a “fascist” ban on free expression. Governor Andrew Cuomo said he would only allow indoor dining to resume in New York City if the NYPD sets up a task force to enforce social distancing rules, as restaurants sue authorities for $2 billion, citing “irreparable harm.” Cuomo addressed reopening businesses in NYC and elsewhere during a press call on Thursday, saying “compliance and enforcement” would drive the state’s guidance on lifting sweeping shutdowns imposed to slow the spread of the coronavirus, especially when it comes to indoor eateries. “If we open restaurants that’s going to complicate by the hundreds if not thousands the number of establishments that have […]
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo made a veiled threat toward President Donald Trump after he vowed to pull federal funding from cities “permitting anarchy,” saying the POTUS would need an “army” to safely walk the streets of NYC. Cuomo called an emergency press briefing on Wednesday night to denounce a White House directive issued earlier in the day, which ordered a review of “the use of federal funds by jurisdictions that permit anarchy, violence, and destruction in America’s cities.” The governor followed up a seven-minute tirade against Trump with what appeared to be a threat of violence. “He can’t have enough […]

ATLANTA—For Austin Sirkin, a cancer survivor, wearing a mask during the coronavirus pandemic was never in any doubt. Democratic officials angry at Texas Gov.
