After showing the first signs of growth in April, Chinese exports fell again last month to $206.8 billion, contracting more than three percent compared with the same period a year earlier. The export data released by China’s customs agency on Sunday was still far better than economists expected, as a Reuters poll of analysts had forecast a seven percent plunge, with those surveyed by Bloomberg predicting a slightly smaller contraction. However, May’s year-on-year fall of 3.3 percent is still a steep decline from the surprise increase posted a month earlier, when exports rose 3.5 percent. Also on rt.com China vows to […]

An earlier Reuters poll had forecast a 7 percent drop. Exports posted better gains […]

China says that its exports rebounded last month, beating most expectations of a sharp decline. However, the drop in the country’s imports accelerated as the coronavirus continues to crush demand. Data released by the General Administration of Customs shows that April’s exports surpassed $200 billion. This is a 3.5 percent rise from the previous year. Last month’s results reversed the 6.6 percent fall in March, as well as the collapse recorded at the beginning of the year. China’s exports are also much better than some economists polled by various media predicted, with the expected decline varying between 10 and nearly 19 percent. Read […]
