…from SouthFront.org About 1,000 members of Syrian militant groups deployed by Turkey to support the Azerbaijani advance in the Nagorno-Karabakh region have laid down their arms and refused to participate in hostilities, Armenian media outlets and military-affiliated sources claimed. They insist that Syrian militants were just used as cannon fodder and did not receive their promised money. According to sources loyal to the Syrian opposition, the number of Turkish proxies that died in the war with Armenia has exceeded 110. Earlier, reports appeared from Syrian sources , claiming that about 400 members of Turkish-backed militant groups deployed in Syria’s northwest had […]
…from SouthFront.org As of October 13, clashes between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces continue in the southern part of the contested Nagorno-Karabakh region, while on the other parts of the frontline Baku and Yerevan limited their military activity to exchange of artillery and aerial strikes. The humanitarian ceasefire signed by the sides in Moscow formally remains in force, but the terms of the ceasefire are not fulfilled by both sides. The main point of instability is the town of Hadrut, which Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced to have been ‘liberated’ from ‘Armenian occupants’. However, Armenian forces apparently forgot to read his tweet […]
Officials in Yerevan and the unrecognized region of Nagorno-Karabakh have repeatedly accused Israel and Turkey of providing extensive military assistance to Azerbaijan for its war in the region. Azerbaijan has called these claims “over-exaggerated” and has accused Armenia of trying to “undermine” good relations between Baku and Tel Aviv. Arayik Harutyunyan, president of the self-proclaimed Republic of Artsakh (the Armenian name for Nagorno-Karabakh), has accused Israel of being partly responsible for the “genocide” taking place against Armenians in the breakaway republic. “During the April War [of 2016] Israeli authorities not only knew that the weapons they sold Azerbaijan were being used […]

As a result of the 10-hour talks in Moscow, which continued into the early hours of Saturday, Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to cease hostilities in conflict-torn Nagorno-Karabakh starting noon (08:00 GMT). However, both sides reported continued hostilities after the truce took effect. “Azerbaijan has given Armenia the last opportunity to withdraw from its occupied lands. The ceasefire that has been announced for the […]
…from SouthFront.org The Armenian-Azerbaijani war is nearing the end of its second week with no prospects of de-escalation through diplomatic channels in the near future. The Azerbaijani-Turkish bloc still aims to deal with the so-called Nagorno-Karabakh question by military measures. At the same time, Armenia is not going to accept the Azerbaijani demands and surrender the contested region. The Armenian military reported that its forces had repelled two powerful Azerbaijani attacks in the southern part of Karabakh killing multiple Azerbaijani soldiers and destroying nine armored vehicles. It also claimed that a large grouping of Azerbaijani forces was defeated near Horadiz. These […]
…from SouthFront.org Armenian forces have reclaimed the tactical initiative in the battle for the Nagorno-Karabakh region and conducted several counter-attacks taking back positions earlier captured by Azerbaijan on the Jabrayil front on the evening of October 7. Later, on the morning of October 8, the Armenian Defense Ministry announced that Azerbaijani forces had launched a military offensive in the area, which had been repelled. “Early in the morning, at 08:30, the enemy attempted an attack in the southern direction, but after losing 3 units of military equipment and about 20 soldiers, the enemy escaped from the battlefield near Jabrayil,” the representative […]
The model recently took to social networks calling on the public to urge Congress and the White House to force the sides to cease hostilities in the Armenian-majority region, blaming them on Azerbaijan. Emmy-nominated film producer and human rights advocate Eric Esrailian is the person behind reality television star of Armenian descent Kim Kardashian West’s push for the US to weigh in and support Armenia amid an outbreak of fierce fighting with its neighbour and long-time adversary Azerbaijan, The Hill reported. Esrailian is said to have been drafting statements for Kardashian West, her celebrity family, and other high-profile American Armenians, calling […]
The flare-up of fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh entered its second week on Monday, with dozens of civilians and an unspecified number of servicemen ranging from dozens to hundreds or even thousands killed. Both sides have blamed each other for starting the fighting. Until the mid-1980s, the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast (NKAO), an ethnic Armenian-majority region part of the Azerbaijani Soviet Socialist Republic of the USSR, lived in relative peace, with the estimated 145,600 Armenians and 42,900 Azeris constituting 76.4 percent and 22.4 percent of the population, respectively, and other nationalities, including Russians, Kurds, Greeks and Assyrians making up the rest. Throughout the Soviet […]

…from SouthFront.org On October 2, the Armenian-Azerbaijani war entered its 5th day. Forces of the Azerbaijani military, supported by Turkey, continued their attempts to capture the contested Nagorno-Karabakh Region and to dismantle the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, which is overwhelmingly populated by Armenians. Intense artillery duels and Azerbaijani airstrikes are being reported across the entire frontline in Karabakh, and even near some parts of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border. Nonetheless, the main clashes still take place in the districts of Fizuli and Jabrayil, where Azerbaijan have achieved their main gains capturing several positions from the Armenians. The Azerbaijani artillery together with Turkish-made and Israeli-made combat […]
Azerbaijan claims to have killed or wounded more than 2,000 Armenian troops during fierce fighting in the contested Nagorno-Karabakh region. Armenia had disputed such high numbers. Around 2,300 “enemy personnel” have been killed or wounded since fighting broke out on Sunday, Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry reported. Officials added that an Armenian S-300 air defense missile system was destroyed at the frontline in Karabakh, along with around 130 tanks and more than 200 artillery pieces. Yerevan had previously denied Baku’s claims of killing hundreds of its soldiers. Armenia’s Defense Ministry spokesperson Shushan Stepanyan said that 16 servicemen were killed. Officials in Nagorno-Karabakh, a […]
