By continuing to become an increasingly independent pole of influence amidst the global systemic transition to multipolarity, the Latin American countries literally contribute to changing the world for the better. They show how isolated the US is from the Global South, which discredits its propagandistic innuendo to have returned to its former superpower status in recent months. US observers are becoming increasingly worried that next month’s Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles is about to be one of the Biden Administration’s worst-ever foreign policy embarrassments following last August’s chaotic evacuation from Afghanistan. Politico headlined a piece about how “Biden’s Americas summit is drawing […]

Of all the reasons Donald Trump has refused to wear a mask in public in the four-plus months since the COVID-19 pandemic began in the U.S., high on the list must be fear of ridicule. The aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) returned to sea after a coronavirus outbreak sidelined the massive warship for nearly two months after more than 1,000 sailors tested positive, Navy officials said Tuesday. “The ship left Naval Base Guam and entered the Philippine Sea May 21 to conduct carrier qualification flights for the embarked Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 11,” said in a statement. Theodore Roosevelt is underway conducting carrier qualifications during a deployment to the Indo-Pacific. ”It feels great to be back at sea,” said Rear Adm. Stu Baker, commander, Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 9. “Getting Theodore Roosevelt and Carrier […]

Despite launching with considerable fanfare in early 2019, grin, the first cryptocurrency to test privacy protocol MimbleWimble, is showing no signs of life. At its launch, professional investors poured funding — by some estimates, $100 million — into mining the cryptocurrency, with some even calling it a sort of “Bitcoin 2.0”. Privacy without sacrificing scalability is the primary advantage of MimbleWimble, according to grin developers. The first grin coins were also issued via a so-called “fair launch” whereby, similar to bitcoin, all coins are minted by miners instead of being generated prior to the network going live. Five American sailors have tested positive for Covid-19 for a second time after resuming duty aboard an aircraft carrier that saw a major outbreak in March, even after a full evacuation of its crew and months of deep cleaning. Though the Navy imposed several layers of screenings before allowing sailors to re-board the ill-fated USS Theodore Roosevelt – where more than 1,000 personnel contracted the virus in March – the five seamen nonetheless tested positive again after returning to the ship, the military confirmed on Thursday. “Five [Theodore Roosevelt] sailors who previously tested Covid positive and met rigorous recovery criteria have […]
Benjamin Lawsky, the former financial regulator who created New York’s BitLicense in 2015, joined New York Digital Investment Group Asset Advisory LLC (NYDIG) nearly a year before the bitcoin fund manager applied for, and received, that license. Lawsky’s ties to NYDIG, which has raised $230 million in six separate fund sales since 2018, are documented in the asset advisory’s March Form ADV filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Lawsky is recorded as an “elected manager” of NYDIG with an indirect ownership stake through New York Digital Investment Group LLC. The filing did not define what an elected manager’s […]
LA County will likely extend its Covid-19 containment measures until the end of July, a top public health official said, triggering a wave of outrage as residents declare “summer cancelled” and even predict riots in the streets. The three-month extension to the county’s “safer at home” order was announced by Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer on Tuesday. Though she stopped short of issuing an official order, Ferrer said the timetable would not shift until officials see a “dramatic change to the virus and tools at hand,” stressing the need for increased testing capacity. Our hope is that by using the data, […]

On November 10, 2019, a violent coup d’état took place in Bolivia, navigated by the U.S., which managed to articulate the racist national oligarchy with the backing of the armed forces, the police and the paramilitary groups forcing Evo Morales to resign at gunpoint. The objective was to regain control of natural resources, mainly lithium, and to erase the […]
