Revolution is based on land. Land is the basis of all independence. Land is the basis of freedom, justice and equality. – Malcolm X, Message to the Grassroots, November 10, 1963 While the land relationships that dominate this society have implications for every relation in society, the recent crisis of gentrification and forced removal in low income Black communities, along with the volatile boom-bust real estate cycles, has made the struggle for adequate housing the most pronounced battleground in an increasingly intense war over the vision for the future of how we relate, prioritize and manage access to land. The current regime of […]
Russian and Donbas forces have cleared the city of Mariupol except for the giant metallurgic complex of Azovstal which is held by some estimated 4,000 men, including many from the fascist Azov battalion. On Sunday Russia opened corridors across the front line and asked for those forces to surrender. However the Zelensky government ordered them to stay and to continue to bind Russian forces which otherwise could be used elsewhere: Russia had given the Ukrainian fighters in Mariupol until Sunday morning to lay down their weapons or be “eliminated.” On Sunday, the forces at the plant ignored the deadline, and Ukrainian officials vowed that they […]

For almost three months, the Western mainstream media, in a move not dissimilar to its previous assertions that Saddam Hussein had the capability to launch WMDs within 45 minutes, or that Iran was building a nuclear bomb, has repeatedly claimed that Russia is planning an ‘imminent’ invasion of its Western neighbour Ukraine – under the rule of the successive US-EU friendly governments of Petro Poroshenko and Volodymyr Zelensky since the 2014 Euromaidan, a CIA and MI6-orchestrated regime change operation launched in response to then-Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych’s November 2013 decision to suspend an EU trade deal in […]

Above Photo: Preface (Sacha Llorenti) Four and a half million people died infected by COVID-19. This global tragedy is the prism through which we must analyse how and in whose interest the ruling system on the planet works. In the span of a few months, the pandemic compacted political, economic, and social phenomena, the consequences of which would take years to manifest in other circumstances. Some of the issues that were clearly magnified through the lens of the pandemic are job insecurity, deficits in health systems, inequality, North-South relations, the United Nations’ failure to coordinate a collective effort, the use of […]

UN Special Rapporteurs estimate that 100,000 people have died in Venezuela in the last decade because of the lack of medicine brought on by U.S. sanctions. In tandem with this global commitment, the Biden administration released its plan to bring down U.S. methane emissions. While this plan would set new limits on […]

One of the biggest moments in Julian Assange’s trial is slated to happen next month, when the embattled and imprisoned WikiLeaks founder’s final extradition hearing is held in Great Britain. And as host Lee Camp points out before introducing his guest in this clip from “Redacted Tonight,” there have been some stunning developments recently in Assange’s story—namely, the revelation that the U.S. government and a certain three-letter intelligence agency were ginning up possible plans to assassinate Assange. If ever there were an expert on Julian Assange, it would surely be Camp’s guest, John Shipton—Assange’s father—who calls the assassination plot considered by former Secretary […]

A local strip club could doom a business curfew in Miami implemented to curb the coronavirus pandemic in Florida’s largest county. The post describes Gnosis’ $12.5 million 2017 token sale (which valued the project at $300 million) as an “interest-free loan.” After borrowing the money, the team “failed to deliver the products laid out in its fundraising whitepaper,” Arca contends. The products Gnosis created generate value only for its management, Arca claims. In that article, Köppelmann is quoted as saying Gnosis “had already been working on an alternative path for the GNO token, which we think […]
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and other Democratic Party leaders claim that US President Donald Trump will appear to win on election night only to lose once millions of mail-in votes are counted. They say he is already laying the ground to claim ballot fraud and refuse to concede defeat. Fox News host Sandra Smith confronted Kellyanne Conway—yet again—on Wednesday with a new poll that finds 61% of Americans saying the U.S. response to the coronavirus pandemic has been unsuccessful. “Most Americans do still see a very big problem on our hands when it comes to the handling of the virus,” she said. Pointing out that Notre Dame just had to send all of its students home and go back to online classes after an outbreak on campus, Smith asked, “What is the message from the president as he begins his convention next week to those who are still greatly feeling […]
From the coronavirus pandemic to the A-levels fiasco, the current UK government has been in crisis management mode for months. However, Boris Johnson doesn’t look eager for a major reshuffle until after Brexit is (finally) done. Prime Minister Boris Johnson does not plan to reshuffle the government in the autumn despite growing pressure from within the Conservative Party, The Telegraph reports, citing Whitehall sources. “There are no plans for a reshuffle in September”, a government source told the newspaper, adding that Johnson “has full confidence in the Education Secretary”. Gavin Williamson has faced a lot of backlash from the public and […]
Afghanistan has released the first 80 of its 400 remaining Taliban prisoners as part of a peace deal with the US, which is contingent on the US also withdrawing all its troops from the country. However, the US “deep state” may be trying to sabotage the deal, Mark Sleboda, a Moscow-based international relations and security analyst, told Sputnik. “We have to remember that the US-installed Afghan government never agreed to these withdrawal talks that the US had with the Taliban,” Sleboda told Political Misfits hosts Michelle Witte and Bob Schlehuber on Tuesday. “They never agreed to the prisoner release … and […]
Over the past few weeks, at least seven members of the Seattle City Council have revealed a commitment to cut police funding by 50% in the wake of anti-police violence and anti-racism protests in the US, calling to defund police departments across the country. The Seattle City Council on Monday passed a spending plan that would reduce funding for the city police department as part of a revised 2020 budget. The plan, approved by a 7-1 vote, included a 14-percent cut in police funding or about $3 million of the department’s earlier approved budget of $400 million, which is far below […]

After running down the latest horrifying statistic about the coronavirus pandemic, Seth Meyers pointed out Monday night that all of this could have been avoided if the United States had implemented a “coordinated national testing strategy.” And as it turns out, “We almost had one, until Jared Kushner slithered out of his Westworld milk bath and fucked it up,” as the Late Night host put it. Last week, Vanity Fair reported that it was the president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner who was put in charge of creating such a plan but then ultimately scrapped it before it could get started. “I guess […]
