On 16 February 2015, Govind and Uma Pansare went for a morning walk near their home in Kolhapur, in the western state of Maharashtra, India. Two men on a motorcycle stopped them and asked for directions, but the Pansares could not help them. One of the men laughed, pulled out a gun, and shot the two Pansares. Uma Pansare was hit but survived the attack. Her husband, Govind Pansare, died in a hospital shortly thereafter on 20 February at age 82. Raised in poverty, Govind Pansare was fortunate to go to school, where he encountered Marxist ideas. In 1952, at the age of […]

Above Photo: An inmate reads a book while in the infirmary at Las Colinas Women’s Detention Facility in Santee, California, on April 22, 2020. (Sandy Huffaker / AFP / Getty Images. ) As one of the many calculated cruelties that define the US prison-industrial complex, the long assault on prisoners’ ability to read books while incarcerated is sinister, inhumane, and must be stopped. In a recent piece for Protean magazine entitled “The American Prison System’s War on Reading,” Alex Skopic writes, “Across the United States, the agencies responsible for mass imprisonment are trying to severely limit incarcerated people’s access to the written […]
Books on Trump: the gifts that keep on giving. Illustration: Guardian DesignWade through the vast tomes of books written about the president over the last four years and a horrifying picture emerges Guardian/UK: Donald Trump is not a reader but to the publishing industry he is the gift that keeps on giving. His time in the White House has yielded an avalanche of books with titles like Fear, Rage, Unhinged and Fire and Fury. Together, they paint a withering portrait of the 45th president. Some crackle with the fury of scorned employees. Others are banquets of gossip by seasoned reporters, whether highbrow (Bob Woodward) […]
A sign marks the Canadian border. (Lorie Shaull/Flickr/ via JTA) JTA — By 11:42 a.m. on the morning after US President Donald Trump refused to condemn white supremacists during the presidential debate, Heather Segal had received four inquiries from Americans interested in moving to Canada. Two of them were Jewish. Segal, an immigration lawyer in Toronto, knows there’s always a spike in inquiries during US election years. But in her 25 years of experience, it’s never been as big as it is now. In 2016, she said, she received a couple dozen inquiries, total, from Americans looking to move to Canada. […]

Fast Times at Ridgemont High is a popular 1982 dramedy film depicting the life of high school students in Los Angeles and was preserved in the US National Film Registry in 2005. On Thursday, former spouses, Hollywood star Brad Pitt, 56, and actress Jennifer Aniston, 51, took part in a Fast Times at Ridgemont High table read streamed live. Brad Pitt read Brad Hamilton, who fantasizes about Linda Barrett (read by Jennifer Aniston) coming out of the pool after swimming. “Her breasts seem even bigger than usual, her nipples are hard…her lips are parted, slightly, her eyes are filled with desire”, he read. “Hi, Brad”, Aniston […]
Introduction What’s a bisexual? Is it dating people like Epstein or Roy Cohn and then having sex with children as the New York courts imply? Do you hire models to accompany you around New York when you and Cohn or Epstein hit clubs or, as the photo below depicts, leave the girls behind when you don’t need them? VT interviewed a top New York model (now a Trump appointee to a key position in government) that accompanied Trump and Epstein until Melania came along. It was $10k, not to sleep with Trump but to sign a non-disclosure and provide cover. Along […]
Recently an editor at the website Jezebel titled her essay on quarantine reading “You Don’t Have to Read Gravity’s Rainbow During Self-Isolation.” She instead recommended “trash” or books one had read as a child. Others in lit biz were quick to recommend Camus’ The Plague, and a recent piece in The New York Times suggested Moby-Dick, mostly for its finale of nature—the White Whale—exacting revenge on Ahab and the rest of the humans (except for Ishmael) on the Pequod. Depending on how long the pandemic lasts, I, too, would recommend Moby-Dick—as a precursor of and as a warm-up for Thomas Pynchon’s […]
Amazon: In this revelatory, authoritative portrait of Donald J. Trump and the toxic family that made him, Mary L. Trump, a trained clinical psychologist and Donald’s only niece, shines a bright light on the dark history of their family in order to explain how her uncle became the man who now threatens the world’s health, economic security, and social fabric. Mary Trump spent much of her childhood in her grandparents’ large, imposing house in the heart of Queens, where Donald and his four siblings grew up. She describes a nightmare of traumas, destructive relationships, and a tragic combination of neglect and […]
Scottsdale is among several cities and counties in Arizona where residents have recently been ordered to wear masks in public, as coronavirus cases continue to rise. Failing to do so carries a fine of up to $50 or a misdemeanour, which in turn can result in a penalty of six months in jail or a fine of up to $2,500. A Scottsdale City Council member caused a stir in public after he said “I can’t breathe” during an anti-mask rally. Guy Phillips was addressing a crowd of several hundred people that were demonstrating against a decision by authorities to make wearing […]
Health Editor’s Note: Residents and employees of long term care facilities and nursing homes make up 40% of the coronavirus death toll for the U.S. Admittedly, the residents of these two types of facilities will have coexisting conditions that will make them more vulnerable to coronavirus, so the infection and death rates would be projected to be higher than found in other subsets of population. Early on visitors were forbidden admittance to these facilities but what was not taken into equally important account was that the workers would be leaving and returning after being out in the coronavirus laden world. This […]
A leading activist group on climate change had entered a phase of “pausing and reflecting” on how to carry out its next stage of protests, a top spokesman from the organisation said in an interview this week. The ongoing COVID-19 crisis has led Extinction Rebellion (XR) to review its progress and identify fresh protests for a green economy in a post COVID-19 world, spokesperson Prof Rupert Read told Reuters. The global environment group has been redirecting its efforts to providing “neutral” community aid and protests against UK government plans to restart development of the High Speed 2 railway network amid the […]
Only a handful of days after successfully returning domestic crew launch capabilities to U.S. soil for the first time since July of 2011, SpaceX is continuing to steam ahead with its 2020 launch campaign as they prepare to loft another batch of satellites for the company’s Starlink internet constellation. The eighth flight of Starlink satellites is currently scheduled to launch on a flight-proven Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral’s Space Launch Complex 40 at 9:25 pm Eastern time on Wednesday (01:25 UTC on Thursday). Former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the man who launched the fraudulent Mueller Special Investigation, is testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday morning. The Democrats were only there to spread lies and the uninformed GOP Senators were mostly useless. But Senator Josh Hawley brought the heat! Senator Hawley (R-MO) pushed Rosenstein into a corner when he nailed him for rubber-stamping the FISA warrant against President Trump. TRENDING: It’s a Cult: Thousands of Whites Grovel in Front of Blacks Begging For Forgiveness (VIDEO) Does anyone actually believe Rod Rosenstein did not read over a FISA warrant to spy on the […]
More than 100,000 people in the US have died from Covid-19. Here, 105 families share their favorite memories of those they’ve lost. If you have someone you’d like to honor, submit their story. Editor’s note: One of our editors, we won’t say who, has a horse farm not that far away. (All boots and hat, no horses) The story here, which is a good read, is far from what could be written about the area. Local constable there is a neighbor and pretty nice person who bothers nobody. The sheriff was arrested for murder back in the late 90s, not that unusual either. The key to the region is or was methamphetamine. Now its Fentanyl. There are two types of people in Kentucky, church goers who are respectable and generally decent and the others, […]
Senior Editor Current figures show closed case fatalities down to 21 percent, based on wider testing, now over 2% (Trump lying), which gives us a higher base of infected that are much less ill. Originally, beginning of March, it was 36%. These are the numbers kept from you. Without a new, effective treatment, and there are none, hydroxyshit is a useless poison at what was believed to be needed levels, rates will end up between 16 and 12 percent. Let’s take the high number. We have 95,000 dead. We have 1,550,294 infected. Of those, 448,384 are ‘resolved’ as cured or dead. […]
The DOJ moved to dismiss with prejudice its criminal case against General Michael Flynn yesterday. Below are pieces from the DOJ’s 20-page dismissal letter. The DOJ did yesterday what many who have followed General Michael Flynn’s case for a long time have been waiting for. The DOJ stepped in and requested a dismissal of the General Flynn case. In the first paragraph, the DOJ made its point: The government had no right to interview Flynn and even if he lied it wouldn’t matter: TRENDING: Breaking: Department of Justice Drops Case Against General Michael Flynn The Obama Deep State opened it’s investigation […]
