Guardian: One of the drugs taken by Donald Trump that he has touted as a potential “cure” for coronavirus was developed using human cells originally obtained from an elective abortion, a practice repeatedly denounced by the president and many of his supporters. The drug is a monoclonal antibody cocktail developed by Regeneron. The president received an 8-gram infusion under a “compassionate use” exemption when he was hospitalized over the weekend after testing positive for Covid-19. There is no cure for Covid-19, and the drug is not approved. I know all of you “pro-life” people must be upset that trump took a drug […]

US President Donald Trump called the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) emergency use authorization to treat COVID-19 with convalescent plasma a “historic announcement” on Sunday, but there isn’t enough data to tout it as a breakthrough, Dr. Jason Kindrachuk, assistant professor of viral pathogenesis at the University of Manitoba, told Sputnik. The technique uses plasma donated from survivors of the novel coronavirus to treat patients currently suffering from the disease. Doctors can isolate antibodies in plasma – the liquid component of blood – and then inject those antibodies into sick patients. “It really is, essentially, trying to take plasma from somebody […]
The Food and Drug Administration has issued an emergency authorization for convalescent plasma as a ‘promising’ coronavirus treatment in the US, concluding that the known and potential benefits of the therapy “outweigh the risks.” “The FDA has made the independent determination that the treatment is safe and very effective,” US President Donald Trump said at a press conference on Sunday, amid criticism that his administration ‘forced’ the approval of ‘untested’ treatment. The plasma transfusion therapy has been around for decades and involves treating sufferers with a liquid made from the blood of people who have recovered from an illness and have antibodies. Amid the […]
President Trump was expected to use a press conference on Sunday to announce emergency use authorization from the Food and Drug Administration for convalescent blood plasma to treat COVID-19, according to media reports. The treatment, which hinges on injecting antibodies from COVID-19 survivors into other patients to boost their body’s defenses against the virus, has been used on at least 97,000 patients. So far, though, the plasma treatment has only produced middling data to support its efficacy. The expected announcement would come just days after the FDA reportedly pulled back from issuing the same authorization over concerns from Dr. Anthony Fauci […]

What is it about courtside at the Oakland Arena that really brings out the worst our country has to offer? US President Donald Trump has long promoted the use of the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for the ongoing coronavirus. Testing the drug for use in treating COVID-19 has, however, been blocked by international health bodies which have noted the compound’s adverse effects on patients. An official in the US government pandemic response team on Sunday affirmed that there is zero evidence that hydroxychloroquine is a workable treatment for the COVID-19 coronavirus, despite President Donald Trump’s lauding of the anti-malaria drug as a solution. Speaking on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” a Trump administration testing figure, Brett Giroir, said he is […]
