Earlier this month, Washington said that Turkey’s S-400 deal with Russia remains “a major obstacle” in US-Turkish relations. The US has repeatedly claimed that the S-400 air defence systems are incompatible with NATO security standards, allegations that Turkey rejects. Turkey has issued the so-called NOTAM air space notice to restrict an area near its Black Sea coastal city of Sinop ahead of possible tests of the Russian-made S-400 missile system. The NOTAM followed a NAVTEX maritime notice by Turkey restricting airspace off its Black Sea coast to allow S-400 tests, which NAVTEX said were due to be held between Friday and […]

The main point of instability is the town of Hadrut, which Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced to have been ‘liberated’ from ‘Armenian occupants’. Last Thursday, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a telephone conversation with US National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien, the New York Times reported on Monday. MOSCOW—The fighting in a mountain enclave in the Caucuses escalated Tuesday when Turkish-backed forces shelled five villages including the capital of Stepanakert, according to Armenian officials. ANKARA, Turkey — The official numbers are impressive. In President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s narrative, the number of Turkish defense industry programs rose from 62 in 2002 to 700 today. In the same period, the number of defense and aerospace companies rose from 56 to 1,500. The government was administering $5.5 billion worth of programs then; now this is at $75 billion. Local industry turnover rose from $1 billion to $10.8 billion; and exports jumped from a mere $248 million to more than $3 billion. Two Turkish companies that weren’t on the Defense News Top 100 list last year have made their […]
A video, showing Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden arguing that the US should rally behind the Turkish opposition, drew a huge backlash in Ankara, which denounced the remark as meddling in its internal affairs. The clip, which was filmed in December for a January episode of the New York Times’ documentary series The Weekly, began making waves on social media on Thursday, after it was picked up by Kurdish journalist Arif Zêrevan. In the video Biden says that the US, presumably under his presidency, should “make it clear” that “we support opposition leadership.” I’m still of the view that if we […]
Turkey will not bow to international pressure and “banditry” in the contested waters of the eastern Mediterranean, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said, promising to continue oil and gas exploration as planned. Turkey’s Oruc Reis survey vessel will continue its work between Cyprus and the Greek island of Crete until August 23 despite mounting pressure and threats of sanctions, Erdogan said on Saturday. We will never bow to banditry on our continental shelf. We will not back down against the language of sanctions and threats. Ankara’s goal is to protect its “rights and interests,” Erdogan stressed, adding that the country is […]
A new report was released by Sky News on Turkey’s COVID-19 Coronavirus early hydroxychloroquine treatment strategy and the results are clear. The early treatment program in Turkey relies on hydroxychloroquine as the first step in the therapeutic process. Covexit.com reported: Sky News’ story about “Turkey’s COVID Detectives” by special correspondent Alex Crawford is remarkable. It not only covers the track and trace teams in action in Turkey, but also the therapeutic approach, which relies on hydroxychloroquine as a first step to treat symptomatic patients. The Turkish approach is at odds with most countries, such as the UK, where symptomatic patients are […]

…from SouthFront Turkey is looking for opportunities to shift the current balance of power in Libya after its proxies failed to break the Libyan National Army defenses and capture the port city of Sirte in northern Libya in an off-the-cuff advance. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced on Saturday 25 July that Turkey had signed a military cooperation agreement with Niger during his visit to the African nation, where he held meetings with a number of officials and discussed the effects of the Libyan situation on the region. Fighting between Armenia and Azerbaijan continues for the fourth day over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh. However, the fight is also of geopolitical importance for Turkey, which shares a border with Armenia while strongly backing Azerbaijan, Mark Sleboda, a foreign affairs and security analyst, told Sputnik. Nagorno-Karabakh is “technically [part of] Azerbaijan, and it is generally recognized as part of Azerbaijan by the international community as a whole,” Sleboba told Loud & Clear host Brian Becker Wednesday. On 10 July, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan ordered the conversion of Hagia Sophia into a mosque, after a Turkish court ruled that the site’s secularisation was unlawful. Following an outcry over the site’s status change Turkish observers have weighed up the possible political consequences of Ankara’s decision both domestically and internationally. Consecrated as a Christian cathedral in 537, Hagia Sophia (“Holy Wisdom”) was turned into a Muslim house of worship after the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople in 1453. However, nearly 500 years later, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder and first president of the Turkish Republic, transformed it into a museum as […]

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Turkey’s resale of Russian-made S-400 missile defence systems to the United States is unlikely as it may damage relations between Ankara and Moscow, experts said. In late June, US Republican Senator John Thune suggested, in a proposed amendment to the US defence budget, buying Russian S-400s from Ankara in a bid to break the deadlock over the weapons, which Washington says are incompatible with NATO security standards and might compromise the operations of the new fifth-generation F-35 fighter jets. In an attempt to force Turkey to abandon the S-400 deal, the US has excluded Turkey from the F-35 […]

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has criticized the EU for including the country in its travel ban amid the Covid-19 pandemic, saying that the decision is actually a political move. Addressing members of Turkey’s ruling party AK on Wednesday, Erdogan expressed his concerns over the bloc’s decision to exclude Turkey from its non-essential travel “safe list” and continue a travel ban on Turkish nationals. The restriction, he said, was a political stance. His comments came after the EU excluded Turkey, along with the US and other countries, from its recent list of 15 states allowed to travel to EU members from […]
Ankara has taken aim at France for allegedly ignoring violations of an international arms embargo placed on Libya, claiming that illegal activity was being carried out to benefit commander Khalifa Haftar. According to Reuters, Turkey’s ambassador to Paris, Ismail Hakki Musa, said on Wednesday that the United Arab Emirates and Egypt were bypassing the UN blockade – and that “biased” France was doing nothing to stop it. The accusation comes a day after Turkey slammed France’s “dishonest approach” to the crisis in Libya. For its part, Paris has condemned Ankara for turning a blind eye to illegal arms shipments for the […]

The men were simply shot or bayoneted on the spot, then the women and children were driven south on a brutal and murderous forced march into the wastes of the Syrian desert. Many died along the way, denied water and brutally driven on by the boots of the Turkish soldiers. […]
ROME — In mid-May, Libyans standing on a beach in the west of the country reportedly watched a Turkish frigate off the coast fire a missile, which downed a drone operated by the United Arab Emirates. So far, Turkey’s foes in Libya appear to be impressed by its show of strength. “In recent days there have […]
