Students at Howard University have historically been in the forefront of movement struggles. Now they are protesting tuition hikes, student loan debt, a lack of accountability, and all the hallmarks of the neo-liberal university. On late Tuesday, Oct. 12, Howard University students began staging a sit-in demonstration at the Blackburn building in front of the historic Yard. Students brought sleeping bags and food and began demonstrating and making demands that the university protect their health on campus. As the University of Miami campus filled up again for an uncertain new school year last month, a group of students, faculty, and on-campus workers acted out a grim warning. On Sept. 4, demonstrators lay on the ground as if dead, some of them holding tombstones, while a Birkenstock-clad person in a grim reaper costume patrolled the scene. The protesters were targeting what they said were unsafe working conditions for staff and faculty amid the COVID-19 pandemic. (Students have the option of learning remotely.) But they soon experienced a second scare: Despite all participants wearing masks, the university had managed to […]
Scientists at the University of Oxford have developed a rapid COVID-19 test that they say can identify the presence of the disease in less than five minutes. According to a report on the test published Wednesday on preprint server MedRxiv, the test can detect SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, with “high accuracy.” “Our method quickly detects intact virus particles,” professor Achilles Kapanidis, who was involved in the study and development of the test, told Reuters, adding that the test is “simple, extremely rapid, and cost-effective.” Oxford’s rapid diagnostic test directly detects the presence of virus antigens, rather than antibodies or […]
Idaho’s Brigham Young University has urged students to refrain from purposely infecting themselves with the coronavirus in hopes of cashing in on payments for plasma donations, threatening expulsion for those caught doing so. “BYU-Idaho is deeply troubled by accounts of individuals who have intentionally exposed themselves for others to Covid-19, with the hope of getting the disease and being paid for plasma that contains COVID-19 antibodies,” the school said in a recent notice. The university condemns this behavior and is actively seeking evidence of any such conduct among our student body. Students who are determined to have intentionally exposed themselves or […]

Late last month, Arizona State University placed dozens of students and four Greek chapters on interim suspension, pending an investigation of their alleged violations of COVID-19 safety protocols. The photos displayed in a local news broadcast that night—dozens of students packed together, maskless, on a boat; sorority sisters packing together for rush week—were shocking. But even more surprising was the revelation that they hadn’t been unearthed by a school administrator or the campus newspaper, but by an anonymous student Twitter account known as “ASUcovidTracker.” The account, which has racked up more than 4,000 followers in the two months since it started, […]

Amidst a national debate on how to safely reopen schools during the coronavirus pandemic, several colleges and universities took the plunge, inviting students back to dorms and classrooms with strict health and social distancing guidelines. More than a third of the nation’s 5,000 higher education campuses have reopened, with students from out of state ordered to quarantine, mask mandated and routine self-checks for symptoms instituted across the board. To comply with social distancing guidelines, parties or large gatherings are forbidden. But, just a few weeks into the fall semester, the experiment is faltering. When treating thrombosis, doctors attempt to restore the functionality of blood vessels medically or surgically. When impossible, the vessel is removed and replaced with an artificial one. The new method enables artificial vessels to easily take root in the body while providing optimal blood flow. “The uniqueness of the new domestic technology is that it is much simpler and 90 percent cheaper than existing methods of producing artificial vessels,” said Sergey Tverdokhlebov, head of the Plasma […]
Jacquelyn Gill was angry. First she heard an academic she knew online had perished at the hands of the raging coronavirus pandemic. Then things got weird. “I went from thinking a Twitter friend and colleague died of COVID after being forced by her institution to teach, to doubting she had existed in the first place,” Gill, a University of Maine climate scientist, told The Daily Beast. Gill was referring to the mysterious Twitter account known as @Sciencing_Bi, which was created in 2016, had a flower for an avatar image, and had about 6,000 followers before it went private over the weekend. The case of a missing Arizona State University professor who vanished in March took a dark turn on Friday as police announced his remains were found in a landfill, allegedly dumped there by two Louisiana teenagers. Junseok Chae, associate dean for research at ASU’s School of Engineering, was reported missing March 25 when he didn’t return home from work at the university. Authorities began searching a dump in Surprise, Arizona on May 11, but they only discovered his body on July 17 after a weeks-long manhunt that involved dozens of people working 15-hour shifts and cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Drone photos are taken as students move in on Thursday August 15, 2019. (Photo by KJ Jugar) Gateway Pundit readers may recall the covfefe that ensued after Liberty University announced they would be re-opening for spring classes as normal, in spite of Covid-19 fears. This of course sparked controversy throughout the leftist media, including an article by the New York Times which *allegedly* made several false and defamatory claims about the university and students that may or may not have gotten sick. Liberty University and its president, Jerry Falwell Jr., have now announced a $10 Million defamation suit against the formerly […]

French officials have begun a new phase in an investigation over the mishandling of human bodies donated to a Paris university research center after photographs taken at the facility revealed horror-film-like conditions. An ongoing probe into “violations of the integrity of a corpse” at the Center for Body Donations (CDC) of Paris Descartes University has been transferred to magistrates by prosecutors who launched an initial investigation into the matter last year. Magistrates are endowed with wider powers and are better suited to investigate the affair, according to a lawyer representing affected families who pressed charges against the university. France’s l’Express reported […]
Lamenting declining minority enrollment, California State University’s faculty union has called for tuition-free education for nonwhite students, nixing a ban on affirmative action, and… segregating students and faculty by color? The California Faculty Association has published a list of demands aimed at “redress for systemic anti-Black racism in the CSU,” insisting that black faculty, students and staff are “criminalized both on CSU campuses and in our communities.” Its orders begin with a directive that “everyone needs to recognize: black lives are precious” and “take serious, tangible and public steps to protect Black lives, Black futures, and Black joy,” and spiral off […]
Nearly three years ago in August 2017 President Trump warned that Democrats will soon be taking down Washington and Jefferson statues. Trump called it. President Trump: George Washington was a slave owner. Was George Washington a slave owner? So will George Washington now lose his status? Are we going to now take down, excuse me. Are we going to take down statues of George Washington? How about Thomas Jefferson? What do you think of Thomas Jefferson? You like him? OK, good. Are we going to take down his statue because he was a major slave owner? Now, are we going to […]

During the spring shutdowns of college campuses, millions of dollars were lost in revenues as students departed. Now with many universities and colleges contemplating reopening for the fall term, resistance has emerged from faculty, staff, and students because of the continuing threat of the spread […]
The University of Tennessee has become the first one to require students and faculty to receive vaccines for the flu and Covid-19 that is yet to be developed sparking “push back” from critics. The mandate was pushed through as an emergency rule by the university’s Board of Trustees, with the promise that it will soon become a permanent requirement. “There may be some push-back, but we believe this is in the best interest of our students,” UT System President Randy Boyd said. There are medical and religious exemptions from the new rule, and students who only take online classes do not […]
Princeton has decided to remove Woodrow Wilson’s name from its public policy school over his segregationist views, in the same way other historical leaders have been targeted during the protests over the death of George Floyd. “Wilson’s racist views and policies make him an inappropriate namesake,” the university’s president, Christopher L Eisgruber, announced in a letter sent to the school community on Saturday. Removing Wilson’s name from Princeton’s School of Public and International Affairs had actually been discussed four years ago, though the trustees decided at that time to retain it. It appears that targeting long-dead leaders over views considered questionable […]

Cambridge has proclaimed that it will defend the seemingly indefensible, after one of its professors stated that ‘white lives’ aren’t valuable. Is this the same uni that ‘canceled’ Dr Jordan Peterson, Twitter has asked? In a series of now-deleted tweets, Dr Priyamvada Gopal, a lecturer who specializes in postcolonial literature and “critical race studies” at the University of Cambridge’s Churchill College, announced that “white lives don’t matter,” and that whiteness should be “abolished.” Unsurprisingly, she received mountains of criticism for her divisive utterances. In the current racially charged era, one might assume Cambridge would want to distance itself from her radical […]

At least three black Liberty University employees have resigned directly as a result of President Jerry Falwell Jr.’s tweet in which he declared he would only wear a COVID-19 mask if it were one depicting the 1984 photo of Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam allegedly wearing blackface. Falwell, the long-time head of the evangelical Virginia school founded in 1971 by his father, tweeted the infamous photo of a person in Ku Klux Klan robe and another in blackface on May 27, attempting to mock the Democratic governor’s mask requirement amid the coronavirus pandemic. He apologized on Monday, but questions about his school’s […]
