The wildfires engulfing the West Coast have become so dire in Oregon that state police have established a new type of emergency response: a mobile morgue. The state-run facility in Linn County, about two hours outside of Portland, will be operated by a 75-member regional response team that is searching incinerated properties for survivors and victims. While the wildfires have hit 10 states across the country, Oregon has been among the worst affected, with more than 30 active fires, at least 900,000 acres burned, eight deaths, and at least 50 people missing. More than 10 percent of the state’s population has […]

Fox News host Laura Ingraham falsely claimed on Monday night that anti-fascist activists were behind the disastrous wildfires currently ravaging the West Coast, a rumor that has been repeatedly debunked by local authorities and the FBI. Taking issue with Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden blasting President Donald Trump as a “climate arsonist” for denying climate change is a key factor in the blazes, The Ingraham Angle host groused that the former vice president didn’t appear to have a plan for combatting the fires. “Did Biden anywhere in that speech lay out his solution to prevent any wildfires in the future or […]
As of Sunday afternoon, there were only about 20 buildings still standing in the city of Detroit, Oregon. The wildfires raging along the West Coast hit the small, rural enclave three hours outside of Portland over the weekend, burning a majority of the community’s structures—including City Hall, where the fire department’s office is based. Locals have suggested the destruction was as if “a bomb went off.” “We have approximately 20-25 structures still standing, and the rest are gone,” the Idanha-Detroit Rural Fire Protection District said on their Facebook page, noting that several firefighters currently on the frontlines of these massive blazes […]

Democrat activist and former presidential hopeful Tom Steyer says the wildfires in California, Oregon, and Washington are due to climate change, and the “only solution” to them is Joe Biden. The number-one thing people can do to stop the wildfires raging, according to Steyer, is to “elect a different president who is going to recognize the problem, deal with it forcefully at home, deal with it forcefully overseas.” And the “only solution” to the fires, Steyer told CNN’s ‘New Day,’ is “honest to God, Joe Biden.” Steyer, a billionaire Democrat donor and activist, ran briefly for the Democrat Party’s presidential nomination […]

California Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency in five counties as fast-moving wildfires continue to threaten lives and houses. Amid an unprecedented heat wave grid operators also warned of possible outages. The emergency was announced in Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, San Bernardino and San Diego counties, according to a late Sunday declaration. The move was prompted by a massive Creek Fire, which consumed over 18,000 hectares over the weekend, cutting off roads and forcing evacuations in Fresno. With some 15,000 firefighters battling the blaze it was still raging virtually uncontained by Sunday afternoon. Over 200 people were completely cut off from evacuation […]

BROOKS, CA—By Friday evening, northern California’s LNU Lightning Complex fire had become the second-largest wildfire in state history, killing at least five people, destroying 500 structures, and forcing evacuations in two cities and an Air Force base. It was just 15 percent contained. But up in rural Capay Valley, as the historic blaze crept within two miles of Cache Creek Casino Resort and the sun blazed orange behind blooms of smoke, hundreds of gamblers shirked both fire and the coronavirus pandemic to enjoy a night working the slots and trying their luck at the tables. “These fires are going to continue […]

Tens of thousands of Californians were recently forced to flee their homes in the North Bay area as a result of intensifying wildfires spreading across the state. During a Wednesday news conference, California Governor Gavin Newsom revealed that there are more than 360 known fires currently burning in California. The state is experiencing record heat levels and has seen more than 10,000 lightning strikes in the last 72 hours. “We’re quite familiar with these challenges. But there’s no question, while last year we experienced some acuity of fires, the total number of fires was substantially lower than what we’re experiencing this […]

Firefighters across the nation consult a go-to website for cautionary tales. The “Wildland Fire Lessons Learned Center” shares things that have gone wrong so that next time everyone can hopefully avoid the pitfalls. Today, the site is brimming with the uncharted challenges of combating natural disasters during a pandemic. It’s hard enough to confront a blaze, or hurricane, or earthquake at the best of times. Weather forecasters expect a busy natural disaster season, following Hurricane Hanna’s debut last weekend. But the historic knowledge of how to cope no longer applies, and the Lessons Learned website’s posts paint a disturbing picture. While […]
Health Editor’s Note: America has lost 3,000 (probably a low figure) of healthcare and essential workers to COVID-19 during this coronavirus pandemic. At the beginning of the pandemic there was a sketchy number of personal protection supplies available to protect those who were in contact with COVID-19 infected patients. Healthcare workers worked in unsafe environments. Now, even with mostly adequate PPEs, being in constant contact with the coronavirus increases the chances of contracting the virus. As the wildfires of COVID-19 continue to burn, stress and anxiety of daily facing a demon virus, with no set cure or vaccine for, is taking […]

Can 2020 get crazier? You bet. We’re just getting started. If you wrote a screenplay of what’s happened so far in 2020 and gave it to Hollywood producers, they’d laugh you right out of the room. “So, your movie,” they’d say, “has the president of the United States being impeached, a pandemic killing more than 100,000 Americans and 375,000 worldwide, race riots and looting in dozens of U.S. cities, a billion animals killed in Australian wildfires, Brexit, royals abdicating, drone strikes whacking terrorists — and a wave of killer hornets to boot? Get out!” And here’s the thing: We’re only 155 […]
